Baccerac

Baccerac is the capital of Mäzgyrazrfold and therefore also the De Facto capital of the Blazennian Empire. With a population of just 7600 people, it simply does not have the population required to sustain an imperial bureaucracy. To this end, Emperor Csömbor I has plans to finance an ambitious construction project in the region in order to bring in new population. The construction of a new palace is also in the works as Baccerac Castle is simply too small for the needs of both defense and running an empire. If Csömbor's plans work out, it may very well become one of the most modern and lavish cities in the Empire, with a large bureaucracy and the papermaking industry to fund it, but for now it is a small city whose production is mainly small-scale grazing.

Demographics

The population of Baccerac is almost entirely human, with the Blazennian Holzfiens making up around 65% of the population and the Mäzgyra Enctör accounting for most of the rest. There are a few Elves populating the city as well, and Dwarves from Impirmine are account for about 100 individuals.

Defences

Baccerac Castle, constructed in the 13th century S.C., serves as both the royal residence and as the main defense of the city. As it is not really large enough for both in the current age, most of the military function has been dialed back, leaving Baccerac dependent on other methods of defense. Currently, the Emperor himself serves as a fine deterrent, but the defenses are still in dire need of modernization.

Industry & Trade

Baccerac is mostly a trading settlement, often used as a stopping point by Dwarves when shipping resources from Impirmine south. It's a good place for them to restock on food and ale, and much of the city reflects this. Baccerac also has a modest livestock market as farmers from the surrounding area use it as an entrepot for selling and buying animals.

History

It is likely the Baccerac originated as a farming settlement and garrison town for the Elves of Oleandron. Based on this, it was most likely founded sometime in the period between 0 and 100 SC. Baccerac's location was far enough away from the Impir mountains to not incite trollish raiding, but close enough to be of military use in the eventuality of raids. By the time dwarves settled the mountains it was probably the main settlement of the region, which was extremely lightly settled at the time. With the fall of Oleandron, the city was mostly looted and abandoned by the Westmen, and the Elves present mostly fled. The Westmen at this point were still tribal and so the city sat in ruins for several centuries, apart from the bastion which had become the last holdout of elves in the region. The Elves living there were mostly ignored up to the foundation of the Blazennian Empire, as the Holzfien began to settle at last. The bastion became a point of contention and an early dispute between humans and elves arose over who had rights to the fort. In the end the elves would win out, but they were still integrated into the relevant duchy's lands. Nonetheless, its location was still good, and humans settled the area, which became known as Feufort. However, the town had only grown to 4000 inhabitants when the Mäzgyra arrived in the area in 1775 SC, the refugees booming the population to almost 10000. In 1784, when Eberhald I granted the region to the Enctör as Mäzgyrazrfold, Feufort was chosen as the new capital because it had the largest amount of Mäzgyra settlers. As the settlers disseminated across the lands, the population dropped back down to 6000. In order to cement their new power, the Mäzgyra built a new palace and defense for the city- Fort Baccerac. By 2000 SC, Baccerac has come to refer to the whole city, but the Holzfien locals still call it Feufort and the elves still call it [tbd].
