Moonherald Jessa Gong Character in The Dragon Isles | World Anvil

Moonherald Jessa Gong

Jessa Gong is the leader of the Kalamsian Theocracy and Moonherald of the Order of the Waning Crescent. While her two positions are tied closely together, they are different in a few ways. As leader of the Theocracy she is in charge of the governmental happenings within the nation's borders. As Moonherald of the order, she is the highest ranking priestess of the religion and cares for the wellbeing, progress, and faith of all the order's members, regardless of a member's location and residence.   Jessa was born and raised in the gnomish commune of [Baji-Dal] within the Kalamsian borders. Through her younger years she learned the rituals and facets of the Order of the Waning Crescent in a family of seven children. Having a simple life, she, through the teachings of her family, gave service to the order with all she had, devoting all of herself to the order. Because the order led the small nation, she quickly became entrenched in the political side of the organization. She led many charitable outreach programs and became a cleric of the Waning Crescent.   She spent over a hundred years mastering her craft, the doctrines, magic, and rose through the ranks of both the order and the theocracy. For thirty of those years she was at the side of the previous moonherald until she passed away peacefully. After that Jessa inherited the title of Moonherald and became the defacto leader of state and church.   As a leader she is meek and gentle. She focuses on the doctrines of the order which teach peace through understanding of one's self and the balance between light and dark. Publicly she aims to put the nation in a position to ensure its sovereignty in a time of turmoil and uncertainty. With issues at home with goblins and fey, the Moonherald advises her followers to seek safety in numbers, and is calling all members of the faith to prepare for what she mysteriously alludes to is coming.
