The Planar Conformation

The Planar Conformation was a geometrical refolding of the graph in the local region of the Discontinuum, particularly affecting the topology close to the realm of Magicians' End. Such events are fortunately very rare and the Stability Council believes that they are almost certainly natural in origin and akin to earthquakes in multidimensional spaces. Sometimes called "allotropic shifts" or "transdimensional energy settlements", only three others have been observed and all of them much deeper and further from the local evolutions. This one came the closest to the realms watched over by the Stabilty Council and as such, is the most disturbing manifestation of the uncertain nature of the Discontinuum.   On Magicians' End, they now date events as BPC or APC, meaning Before the Planar Conformation or After the Planar Conformation.   Even in the long gone days when Magicians' End was known as Trinity Moon, it has always been a realm where the Laws of Form permit powerful magics to operate and it had already experienced one traumatic thaumatic cataclysm following the events of the Iceholt Betrayal. Lying close to the limits of safe Evolutions, the realm is in constant danger from unnatural incursions across the barriers. The Planar Conformation, however, caused the most widespread destruction the realm has ever known. This included the creation of the Dark Domains which brought about an end to the Old Pale Empire. Subtle but powerful permanent changes to the Laws of Form, introduced further instabilities, increasing the effects and possibilities for arcane operations and increasing the risk that the entire realm might one day lose its status as an evolution altogether.
