Soramelle Peretek was a botanist, born in Jebbin City during the early expansionist phase of the Old Pale Empire. She travelled to Punjuki and studied the flora and fauna of the northern jungles with a specific interest in the fruits, leaves and roots and what they could be used for.

Of course I am greatly interested in phryne and celovass and their cultivation, but I cannot help but wonder if other marvellous riches from Punjuki grow in the steamy heat of its lush jungles, unfound and unexploited.

Had she been able to reach the remote and difficult plateaux where it grew, there can be little doubt that she would have been fascinated by the Triquetra Orchid in the south Central Highlands, but that discovery would have to wait for almost six thousand years and the endeavours of Oloonya Sarald. In her own age, Soramelle nevertheless made another contribution to botanical history and chemistry when she studied the sap of the Klewol Palm and discovered how to make the earliest versions of the White Draught.
Her research came to the attention of a certain lieutenant colonel in the army (whom she would later marry) and he in turn made the fascinating properties of the potion known to his superiors who considered it with great interest.
The timing was fortuitous, since planning for the Southern Punjuki Campaign was at an advanced stage and the commanders of the armies of the Old Pale Empire realised that judicious use of the White Draught could greatly aid their forces. And so it was that White Draught first came to be used for military purposes at this time.

Its use was a great success and made the fortune of Soramelle and her new husband.
