Shaldarenen (Shall-dar-en-en)

The Fey palace of Shaldarenen is the high seat of Queen Mab and the royal court. It stands on the bank of the river Shall, where it flows south out of the Great Circle Woods, spreading into a wide meander before it drops sharply over the roaring Falls of Deception. Shaldarenen is an intricate pile of white and grey stone columns, archways and towers, covered everywhere with green turf, trees and plants that wind between the walls and windows and over the roofs. It is the most magical of all the centres of fey power and many notable and noble fey call this place home. They include the following:- Nywellema the castellan. She is responsible for attending to the complex needs of the building. Granim, in charge of the Queen's guard, a troop of highly trained soldiers responsible for protecting Queen Mab. Palazyn Dreldul, an Enchanter, also known as the Curator. He is responsible for looking after the various arcane artefacts found in the Vault of Old Magic. Tellamiss a Seer, also known as the Foresight. Her ability to see the future and help with matters of policy is invaluable to Queen Mab. Clavinna Istiss and her lover Jomack Bevuld, high Agents and travellers in the Discontinuum with a deep understanding of long term fey goals and the behaviour of the realms where they work and visit. They act as advisors to Queen Mab and she places a high degree of trust in them. The cover image shows the palace at winter, but the image below shows high summer at Shaldarenen, a time when the building provides a cool and relatively quiet haven. The royal court often spend time outdoors in the Great Circle Woods at this time of year, but some few of them can always be found swimming in the river or sleeping under the archways.
