Arianna Beasant Character in The Denary Realms | World Anvil

Arianna Beasant

Grand Mentor Arianna Beasant (a.k.a. "Bex", The Soulcaller, Voyager of Spirit, Death Mentor)

Let me preface this by saying that I love my brother. This I say to explain why I have brought him back to life, not once, but twice. He is a farmer, who has been resurrected twice, so I want to make sure it's understood why. I owe him everything I am and without him I wouldn't be writing these words right now.
But why do I love him so much that I used what I learned my entire life to bring him back, you might ask. Here is a little context for you then. When I wanted to go to the Academy, I was crestfallen that he wouldn't join me and refused to do so. He kept saying he was okay with it, but I never believed him. So he told me that he needed to stay back and watch the farm in case I would fail and needed some job, he would take me back as a farm hand. He managed to keep a serious face for a few moments before sporting a huge grin and laughing at his stupid joke. But that joke persuaded me he was really okay with me going and so I bid my family farewell.
So with that being said, let's go into his story.

Personal history

Arianna was born in what now constitutes the kingdom of Kollea, in a small village that was then called Krillyshia. She was the second child of her parents, the first being her twin brother Vossamiel. She displayed a bright mind from the start, learning to read quite quickly, even if her mother's teachings were limited to a few words. She was given some books by her father and proved to be a quick study. Her parents had to sell half of the farm to be able to send her to the Academy. This almost broke Arianna's spirit, as her brother wouldn't attend but he made sure she was okay with going without him, telling her she is the one with more hopes to succeed.   At the Academy, Arianna was a star pupil, learning quicker than other students and soliciting their envy as she was considered just a girl from a farm. But she was winning them over slowly, with her cheerfulness, kind spirit and willingness to help. Strangely enough, she chose to become an expert in the study of the Soul, Death and other themes not one would usually associate with her. But she excelled in unravelling their secrets until she learned of her brother's death. She left everything and ran back, aiming to mourn him. However this was a prime opportunity she thought, to bring back someone which had never been done and save her dear brother. Over some years, while assisting her brother's wife and son with what they needed, she gathered the materials required and used them to perform a powerful ritual that summoned her brother's soul back from the dead. His body had decomposed but another one was procured and soon her brother was back with them, enjoying life. Happy that she had paid back her debt to him, Arianna left for the Academy once more, to inform her colleagues of the finding that death could be ephemeral.   She earned the title of Death Mentor for this, as no other Mentors had arrived even remotely close to anything like what she did. But she was also warned that playing with the occult might incur severe repercussions. She kept expanding her knowledge, trying to find a way to make the spell better or more accessible to others. After years, her nephew came to the Academy and found her, to inform her that her brother had died once more, by bandits again. He wanted to ask her to bring him back but Arianna didn't have the resources she had before, the Academy was strongly against her using their materials for her spells. So her nephew, under her guidance learned some adventuring skills and earned the money over a period of time. Arianna travelled to her brother's home and did her best to preserve the body this time, she didn't think another dead body might be so easy to find.   Once the materials were gathered, Arianna performed the spell once more and returned her brother's spirit to his body. The family rejoiced once more and this time, Waldemar, the son, had the necessary skills to fend off any bandits. Arianna was now able to persuade her brother, to share his story, in the book "Adventures of a Restless Soul". They used the money to buy back parts of the farm lost over years and to support the family. She returned back to the Academy and decided to go against their orders and cast the spell once more, albeit modified.   She cast the spell on herself this time and practically made herself immortal. The only instance of anyone to have done that, she hasn't left the Academy grounds since and currently serves as the Grand Mentor, having hundreds of years of experience as a Mentor and teacher. Her knowledge of the arcane is thought to be unparalleled and her skills legendary, on par with Nadinne Ermenred even.
