Scope
The motivation behind building The Decay of Faerun
This world is being built for solely the enjoyment of myself, and my co-author. Along with those we choose to share it with. It's an amalgamation of themes, scenery, locations that have shaped our interest in high fantasy type settings. As well as quite a bit of original content.
The goal of the project
The main goal is to have a world with a history. Something that can be deemed living, and to write those stories through various campaigns and oneshots.
The Decay of Faerun's Unique Selling point
More so the idea of being able to experience and influence our favorite settings from our favored medias. This world is sculpted in the fashion of what we like the most and things that we find interesting.
Theme
Genre
Of course it starts at high fantasy. There are various ranges of technology from final fantasy style magitek to any amount of arcane artifice. To as low as sticks and rocks.
Reader Experience
That would depend where they were. Are they in the harrowing hills of the dead continent, or are they taking a walk through the forest of illusion. There is a history to discover in this world but with each passing day the future is in constant flux. Will you unearth the secrets of the old world or will you have a hand in the coming trials.
Reader Tone
Somewhere caught between light and dark. A twilight if one would. Will there are great things that will and have happened. There is also much tragedy. Many benefactors and malefactors are at play at any time. Where one saves a villages children from a group of slaads maybe one of those children are being morphed into a new slaad.
Recurring Themes
Corruption of seemingly innocent beings, Just how far is too far and just how good is reliance on the technology of the time. Along with things that fit into political intrigue, exploration of exotic lands and discovery of history.
Character Agency
Player agency is key in the Decay of Faerun, it can feel alive without players abilities to change the course of history. Nor without their paranoia could we have half as many great ideas.
