Manufacturing process

An old favourite of mine. My parents, and their parents before them, would often make these for us as a treat growing up, as I now do for my own youngsters.

These little sweet breads are a classic in the south eastern isles, dating back over a thousand years and have started to become popular across the sky and even started appearing in other worlds! I'm sharing with you my own take on my family's recipe.

My recipe is close to the classics, but has been adjusted for our modern tools and ingredients (and so outworlders can join the baking to!)

  • 1 portion of gist
  • Water
  • ⅘ bowl waal cream (Can be subsituted for Bean Cream or other creams)
  • ½ bowl wall cream fat, softened (other similar fats can be used)
  • 2⅖ bowls baking flour
  • ¾ bowl fine crystal sugar
  • 1 kooken egg
  • Sugar dust
  • Candied fruit peices
  • Fruit syrup (optional, for hue and taste)

  1. Warm the waal cream until a light simmer then set aside to cool till lukewarm
  2. Sift your flour into a large mixing bowl, then fay and mix in the crystal sugar and gist until even
  3. Fay the warm waal cream, fat and egg, then stir until you have a soft dough
    • I sometimes fay in some of the candy fruit at this stage, but this is up to your preference
  4. On a floured top, knead the dough until it is stretchy and smooth, then leave to rise in a warm sport until it has doubled covered with a damp cloth
  5. After risen, knock the air from the dough, then break into 12 matching balls and put them on a tray with space between, then rise again with a damp cloth
  6. After rising, take the cloth then bake in an oven at a baking temperatutre for about 15-20 minutes until they have a brass hue and a distinct sound when tapped
  7. Set the breads aside to cool. While waiting, mix sugar dust and water in a bowl, fay more of each until you have a slightly thick sweetpaste
    • If you wish, fay the fruit syrup to the sweetpaste now. This isn't tradition but an idea brought by a pixie friend of mine. It adds extra taste and hue to the sweetpaste
  8. When the breads are cool, pour sweetpaste onto them and sprinkle with the candied fruit
  9. Sit the sweetpaste to harden for a while, then the breads are ready to seperate and eat!

History

The actual origin of cash breads is unknown, they were already being made in the eastern region of The Sky before the oldest known reccords for the recipe were made. It largely stayed local to the region, but as travel between isles became more accessible, it slowly spread, eventually appearing off world in recent years.

Author's Notes

This recipe was built off the british iced bun, using many different recipies as a basis. My take on it takes some guesswork into account as i haven't yet been able to try the recipe myself so i'm not sure if the quantities are quite balanced, however it should be recreatable in our own world.
