Ascension Lift

The Ascension star-lifts were brought in to fulfil two jobs, they anchor Refuge/Sanctuary in place so that the station can maintain a geosynchronous orbit and they also provide cheap means to bring cargo up from the surface and down from the station. The exact composition of the cables the lifts ride on is a closely guarded Dwarf secret known only to the station masters of Refuge, they've rumoured to have never needed repairing.
Each journey up from the surface can take around 24 hours, sometimes more depending on cargo load and weather, thus they are equipped with functional passenger births and crew amenities such as a lounge for the engineering crews that run them.
