Yugoloth species
A species of fiend that Asmodeus commissioned from the Night Sisters, a coven of Night Hags. The aim was to create a force of loyal fiends who were not bound to Baator, but it was only partially successful.
Yugoloths are fiends, and the Sisters engineered them to be effective fighters in every part of the Blood War, from the front line to the black ops and espionage. Created in Hades and bound to the Realm, they were independent from Baator's Realm magic. However, this also freed them from Asmodeus' control.
Basic Information
Anatomy
Similar to the Devils they were modeled on, a Yugoloth's form depends on its caste, and shares a name with it. A Yugoloth who excels in service may apply to be promoted to a higher form by demonstrating its capability. This is a painful process known as Purification, in which all aspects of the Yugoloth's knowledge and skills which are not useful are stripped away and their flesh is destroyed, dissolved, and reshaped into a raw and newborn, but capable and stronger, creature of the new form.
Genetics and Reproduction
The Night Sisters created a finite number of Yugoloths and bound them eternally to the Realm Magic of Hades. After all, a new Yugoloth would have a name not recorded in the Books of Keeping, and could not be controlled. Some say this is the case with The General.
Mythic figures aside, a yugoloth slain outside of Hades simply teleports back there. The death may still be painful, but it is not final. A yugoloth slain within Hades, on the other hand, expires, and is replaced by a new Mezzoloth produced from the flesh of the Realm itself. The new creature has none of the memories or experience of the one whose death triggered its production, but shares its True Name.
