Ironwood

A hardwood tree native to the north of Primus. Incredibly difficult to chop down, due to the tensile strength of its wood, which is comparable to rough iron. The tree is prized for this as much as for its heat resistant property.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Ironwood trees grow up to 90 feet high, with thick, spreading branches and narrow, arrowhead-shaped leaves of a rusty-red colour. The wood is a warm grey shade, with very smooth bark. The trunk of a fully-grown Ironwood tree is frequently too wide for a grown human to wrap their arms entirely around.   The tree's ability to withstand extreme heat and fire is often attributed to the extreme density of its fibres, which also contribute to its much-lauded tensile strength. Indeed the tree is so difficult to damage, that most carpentry with ironwood must involve some degree of magical manipulation. But even then, Druids all agree that the Ironwood is to flora as mules are to fauna.
