13. A Day In Town

General Summary

In the morning, Cypher and Ta'lok talk strategy over terrible instant coffee and a banked campfire.   Neither of the party's tactical minds fully buy the charges levied against their rogue. Both of them are bothered with the problem of how anyone in Auria even knew she'd taken work in Ignia, or that she'd be going home after, or by which route. Cypher shared his suspicion that the offer that got her released was a surprise, and her kidnapper would try to get her back.   More reluctantly, he shared his theory of the potential mastermind; a force that could know where she was without being perceived as spies, who had investment in the Auria-Ignia conflict, who could scribe a tattoo in infernal, who was known to be a hand in the shadows with murky motivations.   Baator.   Neither of them liked it, but neither could dismiss the possibility. Ta'lok said he would ask Saeldor to use his paladin sense to keep a third eye out for fiends. When Mirage woke up and joined them, neither of them mentioned it, an omission that grew into a secret the longer it went on.   Full Scene
In town, Ta'lok and Saeldor went to collect payment for the rescue mission, while Cri, Mirage, and Cypher made a stop at the post office. Once there, Mirage realized she still didn't have a penny in her pocket, having traded every one of them plus a concert ticket for her darling Toby the Pegasus.   A predicament the snarky warlock was pleased to riff on. Unfortunately for him, teasing a rogue for being short-changed never really works out. She led him on a merry chase around the courier's with his own coin flashing in her hand before Cri gently urged them to pipe down.   Mirage looks at Cri when she speaks long enough for Cypher to snatch his coins back. At Mirage's indignance, Cri gently offers to spot her postage, herself.   To which Cypher shakes his head and says he was just being a shit and passes the fee back to Mirage.   "What can I say, you're... funny when you're mad"   She pays for the post with Cri's coin, sticks her tongue out at Cypher (all in good fun) and spins on her heel out the door.   He follows them out, grateful beyond words neither of them seemed to have caught his almost-slip-of-the-tongue.
