The Skybreaker

Originally designed by Lomar before his disappearance in The Ashsweep of 672, what was once an unusable death machine has since been further developed by Lomar's apprentice into what is now the fastest means of transit in Venathel. The Skybreaker is comprised of a series of carriages enchanted with intricate runeworking to access the power of another plane, a plane in which distances are relatively shorter. This allows for much faster travel, as well as travel between planes. There are breaker-stations all over Venathel Proper*, one in each of the major cities and a few in the surrounding countryside, as well as stops in various inhabitable to semi-inhabitable planes. When Lomar designed The Skybreaker, he hoped it would revolutionize the world, as making near instantaneous travel a possibility for everyone would make the sharing of knowledge faster and easier, likely bringing about the rise of a new age of progress and prosperity. Unfortunately after he passed and his original designs were declared impossible, his apprentice improved on his work and sold it to the highest bidder, who charges rates only the wealthy can afford to pay with any regularity.   *This excludes the Ashlands and the Isle of Mirrors.

Power Generation

Powered by runes that allow access to planar magic.

Weapons & Armament

The Skytrams are equipped with weaponry sufficient to fend of the creatures of various hostile worlds, especially those loathsome, clawing creatures that lurk between planes.

Armor and defense

The runes on the outside of each carriage--powered by a limited amount of otherworldly energies--carries with it the ability to project a ward that can be deployed in emergency situations to protect the passengers. Passengers are informed before boarding that the rear car, which is used exclusively for cargo, is the most heavily carved with these protective runes. The transit company claims that this is so no one will be separated from their belongings in case of an emergency, but some think this is so the company can claim its customers' belongings from the wreckage if something happens. I think it's probably both.

Communication Tools & Systems

While the Skytram is in another plane, most forms of long distance communication are made impossible. This includes spells as well as magic items.
