Giant Yellow Army Crab Species in The Cradle of Worlds | World Anvil

Giant Yellow Army Crab

The Giant Yellow Army Crab is found in and around the Soaking Sea, specifically the Bone Isles, the Soaked Coast, and Panthenic Jungles. Ocasionally they are found outside that area to the north or south. Different from the Giant Red Crabs in the fact that their shells are thicker, less spikey, but more durable. Their legs are also not quite as spindly, and their eye stalks are longer and can regrow.   The crabs exist on the boundary between the ocean reefs and the land. They reproduce on land but feed to adulthood in the oceans. They generally avoid inhabitated areas. They eat fish, eels, sea cucumbers, clams and giant clams. When they return to land to reproduce they will often eat coconuts, bamboo and other fiberous materials.   Rare instances of even larger versions have been rumoured as being up to twelve feet tall. These are generally considered to be exagerations or tall tales from frightened pirates or drunk old men.   When hunted they are used for food and their shells. The meat is considered very nutritious and flavourful with a high content of fats and protein. The shell backs are not uncommonly used as shields, or as large decorative platters. The arm segments are also durable and hard, used for geives or armbands. These are favorite peices of armor for druids and many local priests, and are oft enchanted. Many times with aquatic spells these armors are quite effective underwater as well as above. The Fishfolk and sea elves quite commonly are found with armors made from the army crab shells.   Their Blood is often also harvested for use in arcane rituals, what actual useful properties are unknown due to the perception of occult dealings the use is avoided as evil. It is very telling how dark these rituals are that such research is avoided when other areas of dubious nature are still encouraged and entertained.

I love how much information you get across in just five paragraphs. As a lover of short stories, this is a surefire way to my heart. As for the specifics that really jumped out at me, I loved the tall tales of twelve-foot tall crab and I loved how the harvesting of blood for arcane rituals left me wanting to further explore your world. Well done!

Now it's time for the awkward wave.
