Magic

In the old world magic was common. There are tales of priests performing miracles on the daily. However after the death of God humanities connection to magic was severed. Whereas in a past age it was as simple as having your prayers fulfilled - divinity is no more, and prayers are left unanswered. In the new world magic still exists within some, however limited, capacity. Ichor is a magical substance which, upon consumption, grants you otherworldly powers. Ichor is the remnants of a dead God, specifically, its body. It is blood, flesh, bone and bile. It is a rotting pile a flesh in a meadow and a pool of nervous fluid in a forest. People all across the continent feast on these rotting humors to gain a fraction of Gods power.

There are tales of super-soldiers in the eastern theatre of war lifting horses and spearing fey from a mile away. Or a band of hunters in the southern archipelago who swam for miles without break to catch a whale. Every farmer has heard some story of a monstrous wolf that stalks the night, one the size of a horse with the strength of moose. This is all the doing of Ichor.

There is also a less explored form of magic. One which is left only to be theorized about by kings and scholars. People always wonder how the Court of Daggers made their Fey soldiers or how The Gold Tapestry gained their power. The answer - Verve. It is thought that when God died its body was not the only thing left in the material plane, parts of its soul remain here too. It is known as Verve. It exists within all things, it hangs in the air like vapor, lingers in every plant, person, and inch of dirt. Verve is everywhere and as long as you know how to harness it - you can.

Neither Ichor nor Verve are truly understood. These substances are new and still being researched. The usage of either of them is heavily discouraged among most cultures with several nations openly banning the consumption of Ichor and the mention of Verve. Still, fringe groups such as Fey, religious fanatics, or bounty hunters are known to indulge in Ichor and collages in The People's Republic of Geld have increased funding towards the research of the occult. Some say we are working towards a new age of magic whereas others say it is a thing to be left in the past.

It is thought that all magic, in some way, originates from The Sun. The reigning theory is that God had some connection to the celestial body. Same way the Shepherds of the Moon are connected to the two moons. So, when God died, well, the Sun broke. Scholars speculate about the potential to rebuild the Sun, bringing back a golden age of magic but such things will presumably remain speculative.
