Kingshold
Kingshold is the ruling thanedom in the Centralands of Gaz'roc. It has been held under the stewardship of the Wyrin house since the start of The Civil War of Gaz'roc in 3600 2ER. Unlike its neighboring thaneships, Kingshold's populous has a relatively unfriendly attitude towards mages and arcane magic, though there have been great leaps towards mending that over the last sixty years.
Of the three thanedoms in Gaz'roc, Kingshold is the largest and most densely populated by humans.
The thanedom and its surrounding city was destroyed in the volcanic Eruption of Dragon's Doom in 3990 along most of its occupants. Currently the city lies in ruins.
Demographics
Before the conclusion of the Civil War, Kingshold's demographics where primarily human in nature, with the occasional halfling, however a broaderning of other "forgien" races has increased since.
Government
Kingshold is ruled, under Lord Gaz'roc of course, by a monarchy with the current ruling house over the last 400 years, House Wyrin. The government is aristocratic, with "highborn" nobles at the top and serfs at the bottom. There is a House of Lords made to advise the Thane, though whether or not the thane listens to them is entirely upto them, as was proven when Lord Beltain Wyrin took over after overthrowing his brother in 3929 2ER and cast out the remaining temples.
Defences
The city is built against the mounts in a three teir walled defense separating the wards until the palace above. The first and second wards are the largest and occupied by the general populous. Next is the temple ward, which still lay mostly in ruins today after the Civil War, and finally the palace ward.
Kingshold does not have a standing army, currently forbidden by their dragon overlord, but relies on an extensive city watch and royal guard. All men and women are also required to spend three years in arms training when they come of age. This is occasionally a topic of hot debate amongst the other thanedoms, but allowed do to their lack of military force.
History
Kingshold lays on top of the oldest ruins in all of Gaz'roc, dating far back beyond the formation of the Seven Silver Circle, though its original dwarven occupants are long lost to time. The core of its structure still shares much of the foundation of its creators however. Though its name has changed over the centuries, it has been known as a pillar of the human settlements in Gaz'roc since 2800 2ER.
Tourism
One of the first acts of the late thane, Beltain Wyrin, was to remove those remaining in the temples of Kingsmen after the final battle of the Civil War. In fact, for the remaining fifty years of his riegn, any form of religious assembly with more then twenty-five people was illegal. His daughter, Alaya Wyrin, who became thane after him, has only recently lifted this ban.
Still today most of the temples lay empty. Many tourist and pilgrams come to see the ruins of the Temple Ward, with their marble pillars and golden statues.
Architecture
The city's bones are made of master stonework from an ancient dwarven structure that history has long forgotten. As such, there are massive underground tunnels running under the city and catacomes. Most of the known tunnels have been sealed, but new ones are occasionally discovered and their are rumors of a hidden thieves guild somewhere deep inside.
The surface of Kingshold is very new in comparrison. Many structures are made from lumber or brick, though there are some houses that have dwarven foundations still, particularly of the nobility. The temples, though mostly abandoned and ruined, are some of the grandest in the Seven Silver Circles. Their marble and golden pillars are still a sight to see for visiting torrists or pilgrams.
