Genies

Genies is a umbrella term for all of the various geniekin, much of the same way Dragon depicts the dragon family and not the derrent variations. Genie come from the elemental planes, generally born of different forms of that plane's aspects: djinn are formed from wind, clouds, and storms; efreet are fire made flesh; marids are beings of water; and shaitans are composed of metal, gems, and stone. Lastly, the jann are formed out of all four elements, and are the weakest of geniekind.   Genie nobles with titles unique to their kind rule genie society.  These are geniekin that have served in their lamps for millenia accumulating power and developing the ability to bend reality to their will, most notoriously in the form of wishes. Sometimes genies will serve a family or bloodline as a patron to gain this power and more.

Basic Information

Growth Rate & Stages

Genies generally mature slightly slower the rate of a human, physically reaching adulthood in their mid twenties. Their gestation is also usually twice the length of the typical mortal. At the point adulthood, genies rarely age and can live thousands of years.

Ecology and Habitats

Genies are most comfortable in their elemental palne they originate from or their bound vessel (most commonly a lamp). This is mostly a matter of psychlogy, as all genies can live comfortably on most common planes of exsistance and will suffer no ill effects.

Geographic Origin and Distribution

Most genies live on the elemental planes of their associated varient, but they can esist on any plane of esistance, esspecially if they undergo the ritual of servitued to a vessel (most famously a lamp) and the bearer of such vessle travels. Sometimes, they will even drop that vessel on another plane intentionally, as it is the general bielf that they will gain more power serving on a plane that is not their own.

Common Myths and Legends

There are many myths and ledgends about genies granting wishes to moratals, only to twist said wish into terrible nightmares. While not all genies wish to torment mortals, their is a truth to the myth.   Genies are inherently powerful beings from the elemental planes. They are driven by a desire for even more power and influence. One way they achieve this is by forming a pact with a mortal by binding themselves to a vessel. This vessel can be anything that can hold the genie's essence, such as a lamp, a ring, or an amulet.   When a genie binds itself to a vessel, it gains a significant increase in power. This is because the vessel focuses the genie's magic and allows it to draw on the mortal plane's ambient magic. The longer they serve in the vessel, the more power they recieve and the stronger they are once their servitude is over. Bound genies can grant wishes to their mortal binders. The number and types of wishes will depend on the genie's power level and the specific wording of the pact. When bound to a vessel, a genie is to some degree beholden to its binder. They may be forced to grant wishes that are against their own interests, often leading them to twist the wish to the mortals undoing. It is commonly thought that such a wish resulted in Gaz'roc's 300 year isolation.   Binding to a vessel is not imprisonment for the genie. Many of them see it as a right of passage, usually one they assume after their first of second century. Some genies even maintain this servitude relationship to a bloodline of mortals after their initial binding is over, allowing them to gain more power over a slower but steady amount of time.
"Be careful what you wish for, it might be your last."
Lifespan
Despite being essentially immortal, most genies don't live past a few thousand years.
