The Thorne Family Organization in The Consequence of Gods | World Anvil

The Thorne Family

The highest-ranked noble family and the ruling family of Eastwynne.

Structure

Through every generation, the heir is the highest-ranked title in the family. After the heir, in descending order, would be the spouse and children, if any, siblings, and extended family.

Culture

The Thorne family has a high sense of pride in their magical ability. Throughout the years they have been leaders and, more importantly, protectors. The family has watched over Eastwynne from its conception and has prevented all attempts of it being overtaken. They have an intimidating presence due to their overwhelming strength and historic sense of duty, but most of the family is mild-mannered, all things considered.   Their sense of pride is to a fault and they care very much about preserving their legacy. They participate in arranged marriages, purposely choosing magically adept and strong partners for the heirs. Although it should be noted that in recent years this practice isn't so strict and the heirs can decline the suitors.

Public Agenda

Previously, promoting peace and structure. To maintain their ways of life and never give up when things become difficult. A fair family, who didn't consider themselves above their subordinates. As times modernized that creed changed. Some in the family became more aggressive and rigid, asserting their power and authority so none will even think of going against them.

Assets

The Thorne family is the owner of the Ring of Eve, the second most powerful relic. This is their most valuable possession. Of course, they are also insanely wealthy and in someway own most of the land in New Creighton.

History

Founded before their arrival on Earth, the Thorne family has been around since the times in the magical realm, though their most notable achievements have happened after. They are one of the founding mage families on Earth and were given the Ring of Eve. With the power of the ring they were able to settle on the island, now New Creighton, and were quick to take a leadership role.   The original relic wielder was a powerful mage, if he could use the relic his strength was immense. He felt a sense of responsibility as if by the goddess, he was given a great task. He was unsure if that task was to return to their home world, but he knew he had to make the most of the mages' current situation and so he did. Not long after, Eastwynne was created.   The mages were in unfamiliar territory, facing things and creatures they'd never seen before, but they were protected. Behind the shield of the Thorne family, they had little to fear. The original felt the best line of defense was weaponry and honed his skill. Generation through generation, heir to heir, the descendants were trained to be strong and resilient, nothing must stand in their way. If anything threatened that, they must defend themselves. There were multiple attempts of humans taking Eastwynne but it was shut down every time.   Although the family is headstrong they are fair. They will not outright denounce those who have done them wrong but will keep them at arm's length. This is the case with humans, they know you cannot judge the actions of a few for the many, but they will not blindly trust. The family has had no active input in any major human conflicts, they have observed but never been involved. That being said, they have offered sanctuary for those fleeing and needing refuge.   Currently, the family is both feared and revered. There is a rift between members who want to aim for more calm and peace while the others want to be more forceful. Times are not the same as they used to be, citizens view the noble families more as figureheads rather than important authorities. The authoritative side of the family wants to keep their legacy of power well and alive.

Territories

The Thorne family technically rules the city of Eastwynne (and arguably all of New Creighton) and can enact absolute control, but have let the parliament handle most public affairs.

Foreign Relations

They have a friendly relationship with the other noble families in the commonwealth and will come to their aid during any and all conflicts. Outside of the commonwealth, relationships vary. The one between New Creighton and America is questionable at best.

Education

The most recent generations have attended and graduated from the University of Eastwynne. They are very well educated in both theory and application, magic and physical.

Divine Origins

It is believed that Genesis bestowed the Ring of Eve to the Thorne family, but the power of the ring comes from her and another goddess, Eve.

Worship

The Thorne Family very loosely follows Genesis and by extension Eve. The faith is slightly there due to the relics but it's not heavily in their day to day lives.

Granted Divine Powers

The use of the Ring of Eve.
