Bowedcross

Bowedcross is the neighborhood that surrounds the northern gate into Dayne-on-the-Loch, the Bowed Gate. As a gate district, Bowedcross is a bustling part of town where traders line up to enter the city, sellers hawk their goods, and vendors sell various foods on a stick.   Home to the administrative buildings of many tallymen, tax collectors, and other minor officials, Bowedcross is also home to some of the more reputable bathhouses and hospitals in the city, in part because it is the first stop for travelers coming from the north. There are many inns, as well. The offices of many small merchants are here as well. Wheelwrights, cart builders, and teamsters can often be found here.   Gate wards are second only to market wards in activity. At these areas of entry, some level of inspection, inquiry, or taxation of merchants usually takes place. These sorts of conditions create the bustling and enterprising environment of a gate ward. Like many gate wards, Bowedcross is one of the structurally densest wards in the city.

The Bowedgate: The Bowedgate is an arched gate and the largest on the northern wall. It marks where the old wall used to be in the early years of the city, and is jokingly referred to as "the East gate" by some long-time inhabitants. "Old Wall Road" extends down through the city to the Bridge of Sighs, which marks the end of the perimeter of the old walls.   The Gate of Storms: Guarding the Kiverwick passage into the city from the north, the Gate of Storms has a massive portcullis that can be raised and closed to prevent ships from entering the city. All merchant vessels must stop here for inspection in Bowedcross, which can leave the river choked with vessels.
