Aakinism

Aakinism is the general term for the religion practiced by the Yetrisi peoples of Yevela. The faith is dedicated to the worship of Aakins as avatars and massagers for a distinct god of light. Aakinism is centered upon the city of Aeohs and is led by The Yetrisi elders; those who have risen past mortal bounds and become one with the Aakins and the jungle.

Mythology & Lore

The core of Aakinyeri mythology revolves around the corruption of the Yetrisi and their subsequent banishment from the skies and how they fell to Vambath -the Yetrisi term for Yevela. As recounted in Yetrisi Oral Literature, once, long ago, when the world was young, all people lived in harmony in the sky, where the brilliant light of God burned in the air. This great age ended when the Yetrisi sinned so terribly that God cast them down from the sky and erased the knowledge of the previous age. The Yetrisi fell to Vambath and had to survive in a new world of strange demons and beasts, one shrouded in darkness. God sent down the Aakins, divine messengers and servants, to watch over the Yetrisi and observe them. Now the Yetrisi struggle to appease God and beg forgiveness for their ancient, forgotten sin.

Cosmological Views

Aakinism is a monotheistic religion, meaning it worships one god; Almaue-kalishnt-ulen, Lord of The Skies and Bringer of Light. The religion teaches that The King of The Skies created the two halves of the world, the sky and the earth -also called vambath. One where the Yetrisi dwelt and the other for the beasts and demons left over from the making of the world. The sky was a land of brilliant light shone from God, and the other was a land of terrible darkness.

Worship

Aakinism has no clearly defined worship or practice structure, such things are mainly left up to individuals with the only mandate being "bring good to others on their paths and yours." This broadly means spirituality and morality are up to each person and they may practice and pray as they believe is best.

Priesthood

Yetrisi priests are less clearly defined than in many other religions because of the less structured nature of the religion; there is no formal training or required education, you need only be a virtuous person willing to teach goodness to others. But, the process to become a priest or Lightwalker in and of itself is difficult and dangerous; to begin you must undergo a series of rituals to test mental fortitude and willpower, until if you prove yourself in the eyes of your overseeing priest then you may face the Aakin and be judged worth or unworth beneath the eyes of Almaue-kalishnt-ulen. If you do not die your attempt, you become a Lightwalker, blessed of the light and skies, bringer of fire, now set on a path to guide others in their journeys.
