EP 10 THE CALAMITY
Welcome to the show. Hey, we actually made it to episode 10, yah! Honestly I thought by ep 3 they would be coming after me man. Anyway, we’ve got some tighter security means now, and, I guess it helps to have only like, 5 listeners. Speaking of which, if you’re a believer, share this shit with people you trust. If we last long enough Maybe someday we’ll have some cool opening song and I’ll monologue something about this being the only podcast that dares tells the real truth as opposed to what all the other shows say. But for now, it’s just me doing my best to educate and prepare you’all for the crazy shit going down in the city. Anyway Welcome to the Black Report... This episode is called “The Calamity”.
Another theory is that Mayor Brinks had his vigilante police force in play before there were any fires, and they may have actually caused it when they tried to put down a labor rally in he Hilltop area.
History
-lets start with what the history books tell us about the Calamity; -near the end of the 19th century -Devastating fires broke out in the city and lasted for several days. As a result up to 3000 people died and over 80% of the city was destroyed. -The aftermath of the fires was nearly as devastating as the fires themselves. -rebuilding funds were tied up because of the fact that virtually all the banks had been affected by the fires. They Required a lengthy wait of several weeks before their fire-proof vaults could cool sufficiently enough to be safely opened. -as a result People were hurt, hungry, and broke and soon the riots and the looting began. -Mayor Brinks was unable to deal with the growing unrest and created his own vigilante police force that had orders to “shoot to kill” any persons found engaged in looting or in the commision of any other crime. -Obviously this Police caused more problems than they actually solved and soon after that the city plunged into a crippling economic depressionTheories
The history books tend to be vague about what caused this calamity. There are literally hundreds of different theories out there about this. Here’s what I think…the first place we need to look is who benefited the most from these events. Here me out on this... Something seems to happen over and over again throughout history, people in power once in a while feel the need to stage some catastrophic event in order to remind us lesser folk how much we need them to save us. -take a look at the banks being closed for weeks and who benefitted the most from this whole thing? What ended up happening is people were enraged that they weren’t allowed access to their money, which was desparately needed. Meanwhile Winegarden was hardly touched by the fire. And Mayor Brinks, who was in Winegardens back pocket, wasn’t able to control the outrage. Who came in and saved the day? Mr F-in Camlin that’s who! He very conveniently was able to “convince” many of his Winegarden peers to invest from their private vaults to help rebuild the city. Let’s not forget who seemed to have a meteoric political rise after the Calamity. Hell, the people of the city practically treated Camlin like a goddamn hero after that. Some sources even say the fire was actually started in a Camlin owned warehouse in order to collect the insurance money.Another theory is that Mayor Brinks had his vigilante police force in play before there were any fires, and they may have actually caused it when they tried to put down a labor rally in he Hilltop area.
