The Order of The Circlet

Divine Origins

The Order of the Circlet was formed by remnents of a former order called The Guardians from Alcyria who were portaled to Glosmordin when they traveled with Mirtlif the Wise. They have taken the name Order of the Circlet as a circle surrounds and can protect all within its circumference. These individuals were not the most devout followers of their original faith, and their memories of the tenets of Caelym, their former god, are fragmented and incomplete. As they found themselves in a new world, they encountered the worship of Gyan, the God of Knowledge in Glosmordin, and gradually accepted him as their new deity. However, they still occasionally refer to Gyan as Caelym, reflecting their lingering connection to their past. The Order of the Circlet has adapted its practices to align with the worship of Gyan, blending the remnants of their original beliefs with the teachings of their new god.

Tenets of Faith

Seek Knowledge in All Its Forms: The Order of the Circlet emphasizes the relentless pursuit of knowledge, inspired by Gyan’s tenet to seek and share wisdom. Members are encouraged to explore both worldly and spiritual knowledge, believing that understanding is the key to enlightenment. While their methods may seem erratic or unconventional, their ultimate goal is to illuminate the darkness of ignorance.   Embrace the Unpredictable: Echoing their origins as Guardians, the Order of the Circlet remains unpredictable and difficult to categorize. They believe that true wisdom often lies in the unexpected and that rigid structures can inhibit the flow of knowledge. This belief leads them to embrace a fluid approach to their missions, often shifting their focus based on new insights or visions they receive.   Balance Knowledge with Compassion: While the pursuit of knowledge is central, the Order of the Circlet also stresses the importance of applying wisdom with kindness and compassion. This belief is rooted in Gyan’s teaching to balance wisdom with compassion, ensuring that the knowledge they gain is used to uplift others rather than to dominate or control.   Watchful Against Evil: The Order retains a strong sense of vigilance against evil, a remnant of their original faith in Caelym. They believe that ignorance is a breeding ground for malevolence and that the light of knowledge can dispel darkness. As such, they often find themselves intervening in situations where they perceive evil forces at play, using their knowledge to protect the vulnerable.

Worship

The Circlet’s Mission: Members of the Order are often on personal missions, similar to their original roles as Guardians. These missions are typically centered around protecting individuals, places, or knowledge itself. Whether through visions, divinations, or personal conviction, each member believes they are guided by Gyan (or Caelym) to fulfill a specific purpose.   Divination and Prophecy: The Order of the Circlet has adopted Gyan’s emphasis on divination and prophecy. They regularly perform rituals to interpret the movements of the moons and stars, seeking guidance for their missions and insight into future events. These rituals, while grounded in Gyan’s teachings, are often infused with the chaotic and spontaneous nature of their original faith.   The Rite of the Two Moons: This is a significant ritual for the Order, conducted during the Festival of the Two Moons. Members gather to reflect on the balance and harmony represented by the moons, drawing parallels between their own lives and the cosmic order. The Rite includes readings from the Codex of Two Moons and personal reflections on how knowledge has guided their actions.   The Candle of Eternal Light: Members of the Order carry small candles, symbolizing the light of knowledge. These candles are used in ceremonies and during personal missions, serving as a reminder of their duty to spread enlightenment. The flame is seen as a connection to both Gyan and the lingering presence of Caelym, embodying their dual devotion.

Priesthood

The Order of the Circlet has no formal hierarchy, staying true to the unpredictable and fluid nature of their original faith. Leadership is situational, with different members taking charge based on their knowledge, skills, or visions at any given time. This lack of structure is both a strength and a weakness, allowing for flexibility but sometimes leading to internal confusion and discord.

Sects

It is a sect within the Alcyrian state under the Church of Gyan. While the Order of the Circlet has integrated into the broader religious landscape of Glosmordin, they remain somewhat isolated due to their erratic behavior and unconventional beliefs. They are viewed with a mixture of respect and suspicion by other followers of Gyan, who appreciate their dedication to knowledge but question their methods. Despite this, the Order continues to grow, attracting those who are drawn to the mysteries of both their past and their new god.
