Introduction
Tall grasses sway in the wind as it drifts across the plains of the Verus frontier. A scythe swings through the air, cutting through wheat stalks. An Orc farmer wipes sweat from his forehead as he looks across his tenured land. A windmill stands abandoned in an open field; broken blades, damaged by a hill giant, slowly turn with the breeze. Hidden in the tree line, a band of goblins stalks a cattle herder, tightly tugging on the reigns of their Worgs as their knawing hunger grows. In a small farming hamlet, villagers bolt their doors and windows as a hungry wyvern descends from the clouds, its thrill shriek carried by the whistling wind.
The Verus Frontier is a land in transition. For thousands of years it was a vast untamed wilderness, traversed by both beasts and nomadic peoples, but untethered from any laws save the laws of nature herself. Only in recent history has the Verus Frontier become the site of an economic and agricultural boom, brought on by the nation of Verus and driven by the expansionisnt pressures of the Aurelies Empire.
The Verus frontier is a land full of rolling hills and endless plains, babbling creeks and restless rivers. Much of the land is covered in open plains, suitable for farming once settled. Many rivers, originating from aquafers far within Cavum's stony walls, snake their way across the Verus frontier, providing nutrients necessary for the soil to thrive. Across the landscape areas of untouched wilderness abound. Those who dare venture into the uncivilived forests and plains of the frontier must be prepared lest they never return.
Like many of Cavum's Ecosystems, the Verus Frontier has a unique and diverse ecosystem hosting creatures both great and small. Of the sapient species, Humans, Orcs, Halflings, and
Dwarves are the most common species living on the Verus frontier, however the city of Verus as well as some of the small settlements closer to the untamed frontier host a wide array of species each looking for the opportunites that the frontier provides. In the wilds of the frontier Hill Giants, Goblins, Ogre's, and Gnolls make their homes. Many of these creatures are carnivourus hunters, and as such have frequent violent run ins with other more "civilized" humanoids. Other creatures such as Bulettes, Copper Dragons, and Wyverns are also to the frontier, though they are rarely seen.
