The Chasm of Cavum A subterranean world lit by the tears of the Goddess

The Chasm of Cavum is a world barely held in balance, one where the line between chaos and order is thin and the forces of good barely keep the forces of evil at bay. At the beginning of time, Cavum was a hellscape of chaos and despair, ruled by the God of Darkness Erebus. However, many eons ago the goddess Aurum shed her golden tears, which drove back Erebus and burned a path through Cavum, connecting it's many caverns and bringing life and light to all. Since then Cavum has seen it's fair share of conflict, however the likes of men have brought peace to Cavum for many years.

But now a new age is coming. Magic, once used by a powerful few, has been harnessed with technology. Caverns, once distanced from each other by miles of earth, have been connected by safe passageways. Trade amongst nations is flourishing yet peace is barely held by a taut web of political alliances and the failing laws of old. Change is coming, that much is obvious. The big unanswered question has been who will bring it. That question may now be answered.

Many have heard whispers of an innovation so earth shattering that it threatens to undo not just the political balance within Cavum, but the balance of Cavum itself. According to rumors, the Aurelies Empire, the shining emblem of humankind perched in Cavum's highest cavern, has discovered a way to control Aurum's Tear: The source of all magical power. Those who hold this power are God's amongst mortals, capable of bringing whatever fate they choose to Cavum. Many wish to hold this power, yet the machinations of power dictate that only one can.

Within this campaign, you will decide who is to rule the Chasm, and who is to kneel at their new God's feet.
