He Loves Me, He Loves Me Not
Annabell stood on the edge of infinity, and watched a petal become a flower. Worlds were born around her in a flash of pinkish-purple light, smaller lights drifting from the center to claim dominion over these new kingdoms. She watched as other lights leapt away to Norn, to the Looking Glass Petals, and to Petals she didn’t recognize. Then the flower fell apart, as one petal became the many. An infinite amount to live a single life, just like all the others that had come before it.
One such Petal drifted towards her, as she knew that it would. It was her Petal. The one that she picked. With open arms Annabell tilted, falling away from infinity and into that new light, becoming one with a new world. Annabell took a step forward, and the door behind her closed with a thundering boom. It echoed despite the lack of air, despite the lack of anything. Save for the door, the stairs that led down into a white light…
…and the somber-looking shade of Thauvian Regulus.
Thauvian: “Top marks, my dear. Top marks.”
Annabell: “They got him?”
Thauvian nodded, and pointed his cane towards the light.
Annabell: “They got him?”
Thauvian: “More than we ever dreamed. All the Petals but Norn, safe from Crow's influence. And a new world to rebuild.”
Annabell: “Don’t forget your promise, Thauvian.”
The Tinker looked away from the light and up the stairs, returning Annabell’s gaze with a distinguished tip of the head, his gloved fingers tapping the rim of his hat.
Annabell: “Don’t forget your promise, Thauvian.”
Thauvian: “Away from Norn, at least until Crow is gone.”
Annabell: “Your word, Thauvian.”
Thauvian: “You have my agreement as a gentleman. You’ll be going then? I can’t have two Annabell’s running around. Imagine the headache!”
Annabell nodded, and looked back towards the door. She retraced her gentle steps upwards, her good hand tracing the handle, and then after a few moments of hesitation, left her crown and kingdom behind.
Annabell: “Your word, Thauvian.”
Thauvian: “You have my agreement as a gentleman. You’ll be going then? I can’t have two Annabell’s running around. Imagine the headache!”
