Rubicon

The Evening Star

Rubicon, also known as the God of the Evening Star, is the god of Diplomatic Conquest and serves as the King of the Celestine Pantheon. In many myths, Rubicon is also the god of travelers.

Description

As the God of the Evening Star, Rubicon was a god who's presence stood bright against encrouching darkness. Standing tall and regal, Rubicon carried with himself an aura of power. While Rubicon was oft considered to be one of the most perceptive and attentive gods, he possessed only a single eye, after he gifted his other eye to the mortal world.

Personality

Rubicon was a god who favoured diplomacy heavily over violence. Slow to anger, Rubicon came to blows with few gods during his time as the chief deity of his pantheon. Rubicon frequently attempted to achieve compromise, and preached caution to his peers and followers.

Powers

Rubicon is an expert tactician and swordsman. After Rubicon gifted his eye to the mortal world, and assumed the title of The Evening Star, he gained the ability to chennel the power of the stars, which he used to forge his famous saber.

Divine Realm

Rubicon and the rest of the Celestine Pantheon reside in the Divine Realm of Hesperus.

Relationships

Allies

Illymar
Illymar was the immortal wife and half-sister of Rubicon. Illymar cherished her position as queen of the gods, and swore eternal loyalty to her husband and his followers. Most who worship Rubicon hold a equal reverence for his wife, and many cities have grown under their divine patronage.
The Celestine Gods
Rubicon serves as the leader and chief deity of the Celestine Pantheon. His leadership and authority is rarely challenged, and his judgement is sought in most divine affairs.

Enemies

Yewan
The God of the Natural Cycle, Yewan became ambitious and often challenged the authority of Rubicon, believing himself to be a superior deity. Yewan's self-importance often put him at odds with the other gods of the Celestine Pantheon.
Janus
Rubicon had a difficult relationship with his uncle, Janus, from birth. Janus looked down on his brother's spawn, angered by his destiny to lead the pantheon. As such, Janus took any opportunity to humiliate and undermine Rubicon. Inevitably, Janus and Rubicon's strained relationship came to an end, when Rubicon's father, Enson, discovered Janus' involvement in the War of the Usurper. Janus was cast out of the pantheon.
Titanis
Titanis the Conquerer oft disagreed with Enson and Rubicon's passive and cooperative approach to conflict. While Rubicon was keen on compromise, Titanis always valued authority, often enforcing his own with violence. After persuasion from Janus, Titanis lead a band of Usurpers against the pantheon in the War of the Usurper.

Followers

Many of Rubicon's followers were leaders or world travellers. Worshippers of the Evening Star served him by acting as his "Guiding Lights," focused on brining more people into the The Celestine Church.

History

The Great Awakening

Rubicon is a third generation Deity, firstborn son of the Gods Ilsa and Enson. The birth of Rubicon marked the beginning of what came to be known as the Great Awakening, a surge of creation that marked the birth of several new gods, including Severon, Gemmos, and Illymar.

The Celestine War

During the War of the Usurper, Rubicon's tactical mind was instrumental in his father's victory against the usurper, Titanis. As the war raged on, mortals became involved in the usurper god's mutiny, resulting in a devastating mortal war in 1274 BCE. After their victory, Enson ceded his throne to Rubicon, as he had proved himself capable and deserving of the Celestine Throne. In turn, Rubicon surrendered his left eye, anchoring it in the sky above the mortal realm: the moon now known as the Eye of Rubicon. After ascending the throne and assuming command in Hesperus, Rubicon cast Janus, the trickster god, out of Hesperus, damning him to an enternity walking the mortal plane; immortal, but otherwise powerless.

Artifacts

Rubicon wields the Saber of the Evening Star: a glowing, sloped blade said to be made from the essence of a dying, distant star.
