The Asamack Response

The Asamack Response was a countervailing alliance of independent powers which united in opposition to the Tetratic Empire. Sometimes called simply "The Response" it first raised banners on the dusty red world of Asamack some nine hundred thousand years BCE. Whilst relations between the members of the Response and the Empire were never cordial, neither was there much in the way of open warfare although there are records of occasional flare ups. 
Both Empire and Response were pan species institutions which drew members from colonies of the same races.
The Empire disintegrated much later, it is thought, because of internal strains rather than any military or other efforts from the Response. The Asamack Response itself continued as an important organisation for a little more than twenty thousand years after the collapse of the Empire, before it too fell apart about seven hundred and eighty thousand years BCE.

Disbandment

The final breakup of the Asamack Response was caused by multiple factors, none of which on their own would have been sufficient, but taken together proved fatal to the organisation. Firstly, an unusual blight affected a major crop species used by several of the member races on multiple worlds. Secondly, there was a significant political corruption scandal which caused a loss of trust in the Tetratic members of government. Thirdly, an unmonitored natural asteroid strike, caused major loss of life on Ealorim III. This should have been completely avoidable and confidence in the central government's ability to manage planetary defences against natural hazards was seriously dented. In the end, the member worlds just withdrew from the alliance until it lost critical mass and dissolved.
The end of the organisation did not coincide with the exinction of any of the member races, but this happened naturally over a longer period of time during the age of convalescence.
