Nidavillir

Nidavillir is one of the last few remaining Dwarven Clans after the fall of the Dwenmir Alliance. Unlike other clans, however, Nidavillir has self-isolated, and outsiders are not generally welcomed. In this case, neither Demaga nor Ereban attempts to maintain solid ties or connections, given its isolation in the Tanara Range and coastline, putting it out of the way for more formal affairs. This standard of isolationism has been in place since the beginning of the rule of King Sindri Steelward.

Points of interest

The Storm Forge

Nidavillir is also home to one of the six Master Forges of the World, named the Storm Forge, which Artisan Smith Balmend Irontusk heads. Balmend is the oldest current Artisan, being only the fourth Artisan of Nidavillir since the founding of the Order of Anvils over a millennia ago, and is known for his work on Dwenmir Relics. He maintains a museum of artifacts at his forge. His career has been spent recovering many from the ancient city of Vor'cral. It is also staffed by many Master Smiths and Apprentices and those who wish to study or worship Muradin. One such member of the Order of Anvils is Master Smith Ardorn Fikgrock.

The Early Hydra

The Early Hydra is a magic shop under the ownership of Ulad Myett, a Dark Elf male.

The Second Mill

The Second Mill is a general store and inn owned by Fourwhip Galvinstep and his son, Balston.

Architecture

The Southern Entrance

Entering Nidavillir from its southern side is a pathway called the 'Dragon's Spine,' a 3-1/2 mile stretch of a narrow road leading to the city's main entrance. It curves up the mountainside, giving the city a layer of protection against a potentially more significant enemy that would otherwise flood the city. The curious design is much more akin to a bridge, as the pathway is an independent stone structure with arches and pillars that keep it 'afloat' above the surface of the mountain below as if the dwarves who designed the city tediously carved away the mountain from out around the path they so intricately designed.    Coming up to the South Entrance is a pavilion landing in a circular shape and a dome overhead that attaches to the stone wall of the mountain. Flanking the entryway, a doorway about sixty feet tall, are two dwarven statues carved to represent dwarven soldiers, one carrying a hammer, the other a book that depicts the worship symbol of Moradin.    You approach the interior from the entrance, which is immediately greeted with a wall about twenty feet inside the entryway and paths that go left or right around this wall. They both meet on the other side and give way to the vast scenery of the city itself.

City Interior

Nidavillir is a commonly built mountain-dwarf city carved out of the mountain's interior. The city is built with a darker stone hue, lit primarily with a dim light from the city center where the Storm Forge resides that you can see from nearly all sides of the city. The dim light stems from a small opening in the mountain's peak, where it is presumed the sky opens to the city below the mountain's surface. A circular colosseum-like structure surrounds the forge itself, also in peak view at most places within the city. At the center of the forge, a large circular stairwell leads to a platform that, during the day and a brightly moonlit night, the anvil of the Master Forge is visible in the ray that shines upon it.    The city is built around this monument, with four main roads leading directly to North, South, East, and West, with no blocked pathways. Around it, the city is built in quarter-circle fashions, each with different societal needs such as housing, food, industry, commerce, etc. The main allure of the design, tho, is the inverted pillars and buildings that are not just on the flat-based floor of the city but built up along the walls and also those that hang from the ceiling like stalactites that have been intricately carved into the shape of buildings. These buildings often have lifts that directly access them when there are no overhead pathways, such as bridges that lead from the buildings on the city walls. To access many of the buildings along the walls are carved stairwells and paths that go up the sides between each building structure.
