The Under-Fracture
Beneath the Main landmass of Fracture, great Forests sprout hanging upside down from the craggy landscape. Fed directly by the rising energies of the Void Below, raw energies pulse through and into the thick jungle that starts higher up. No natural light pierces the canopy, but there is such a surplus of energy that the Flora glows with bright neon colours and light across the visible spectrum.
Strange plant life not seen anywhere else, morphed by their generations of exposure to the Void have evolved The Under-Fracture into a deadly and savage land. Difficult to traverse, but rich in rare resources for those willing to risk life and limb. Unlike the Deep Woods of the Dryads, the threat doesn't come from the Dryads, but from the highly predatory wildlife. The Underfracture is an active arms race between prey and larger more predatory prey, all the way up to the peak of the food chain. Due to the ambient glow, the wildlife has evolved it's own bioluminescence. Something not giving off it's own light creates a silhouette, and that stands out from the background.
The energies which pulse through The Under-Fracture have another side effect. In such a raw state, strange pockets of gravity form around the trees. As the Void Mist rises to become rain, it's caught in the gravity pockets, and becomes ethereal hovering streams and ponds. These flow along the network providing much needed water to the creatures present. These gravity pockets also provide for the main way for creatures to traverse larger distances. Hopping through the pockets to provide a lifeline against the pull of the Void. Any creature unfortunate enough to misjudge their jump can find itself tumbling down, into the jaws of the waiting scavengers, so this is rarely used except in desperate life or death escapes from perusing predators.
The only ones mad enough to make it their common method of travel is the Marked of Cocoon. Who's death defying acrobatic hunters flit through the trees, dancing on gravity pockets guided by grapple hooks and their instinctive understanding of the energies ebb and flow. Their abilities are thanks to turning harvested tree sap, rich in Void energies into ink. Consuming the sap, and marking themselves with the ink, they allow the raw magics to become something more than mortal. See [Cocoon] for more information.
Traditionally the bottom of the food chain are the floating spores of the Tower Fungus that sprout from the Root Networks at the highest level of the Jungles. These begin to float down, hoping to make it past the lowest canopy, to be caught in the Void storms and carried elsewhere to take root. See [The Overgrowth] for more information regarding this.
The food line increases in size and viciousness the lower down is descended, with the foliage's decreasing denseness allowing for larger and larger creatures to hunt. At the lowest levels giant monsters clamber back and forth, waiting for anything to fall down or descend for a drink from the larger grav streams.
Rarely, amongst the Roots, shattered corridors and doorways into ancient underground facilities from the Old world can be found. But rare is it that they're abandoned. Wild life moving in to make use of the hidden spaces. The Marked rarely venture inside, unable to use their mobility effectively in the tight confines. Meaning that the relics inside are practically untouched.
