The Spider Borders
The edge of Remnants lands before the Spider-Weave begins. Due to the void below, the place is shrouded in a thick permeant mist. Many are the stories of the ghost and spectres which haunt the place. In truth, this is simply the calls of edge-cliff dwelling creatures cutting through the mist.
Mist-born Settlements are traditionally made of carved void-touched stone. The stones display a strange quality, in that they cling together when exposed directly to fire. Giving their construction, a strange, ramshackle quality. But the insides are furnished deeply with warming furs and a central firepit to ward off the chill of the mist.
Settlements usually mark out the limit of their territory with stone piles made of the same void-touched stone. and few would dare to venture further. No one wants to run into the Giant Spider herds lurking in the Roots. Or even worse, slip and plummet down towards the Void Below. Mist-Born are known for exceptional hearing and their whistle-tounge. A unique language for its scouts that help co-ordinate squads using the songs of local birds. The Spider Borders are the staging ground for trade expeditions out in search of Spider Silk. A foolhardy profession, but if successful, a single expedition can pay for comfortable living for a decade or more.
The population sports high numbers of Dwarfs, who excel comfortably in the harsh environments. And Genasi who've moved in from the Spider-Weave itself. This gives the culture of the Borders a strange half mysticism, as the spirituality of the Genasi immigrants have mixed in through the time. There are also scattered native Til'Tin families. The close presence of the Void Below provides plenty of access to the spirits that they merge with.
