Rock Jaw

A territorial white fish that prefers locations crevices and rocky shallows as it’s dwelling. Non-migratory, the Rock Jaw will spend most of it’s life within 10 leagues of it’s spawning grounds, returning there only sporadically to breed during it’s lifetime. It does not follow any set scheudle but returns on instinct and looks for available mates in the same spawning shallows. Named for both the strength of their jaws and teeth as well as their camouflage color, an average Rock Jaw can grow to around the length of a mans forearm and older ones can grow even longer. They can also easily bite through a finger leading to most anglers going armed with large clubs to dispatch the fish while still on the hook.   Prolific in the colder waters to the northern portions of the Rothnar Ocean , it is one of the main fishing resources gathered by the various fishing vilages that exist along the rocky coast. The meat is bland and takes on whatever it’s seasoned with and is used as a base for stews and soups.  It can be smoked and dried and has a significant shelf life in that state allowing it to be stored and transported. In this state, it is one of the chief exports for the northern region that allows it to acquire non-regional textiles and goods.
