Horned Crabs

One of the larger crustaceans found on the Rothnar Ocean, it can grow to nearly a yard across in adulthood.  They derive their name from the extremely sharp ‘horns’ that line their shells and serving and their primary deterrent against predators, right after their large, and in most adults, deadly pincers.  In addition to fearsome crushing grip, the inside edges are serrate.   Scavengers to the core, they are voracious eaters born of a feast or famine lifestyle and have been know to eat other crabs in times of extreme famine. Large front pincers are formidable weapons and can be used both for cutting/crushing and in tandem rending much larger prey into smaller, consumable pieces.  A Horned Crab can shred meat from bone in a matter of seconds when using both claws in tandem.    They are edible and once caged, easily dispatched and frequently made into soups and stews, though cooking the meat too long will cause it to break down and fall apart.  Many dislike the texture of the meat in this state as in quickly sours and tastes sickly.  In the brief warmer months, it is often served cold with bread and wedges of Harfmrgur.
