Sedulon

"Look at this place! It's a trash-heap! I wonder what gems are hidden beneath it..."
— Treasure Hunter
If something falls into the turbulent currents of the Astral Sea, it will be carried, sooner or later, into one of the many black holes. These black holes are actually portals leading to Sedulon. Many worlds eventually send some of their inhabitants here as part of the great Dance.

In Sedulon, anything that is above a certain mass is not affected by gravity, and as such does not fall into the void below. Such a large body inevitably collides with the other bodies in the realm, fracturing and shedding debris that is then small enough to be affected by gravity. The layers of this world so grind everything and anything over the millennia down into dust and primordial sludge, in a symphony of destruction, making this realm feared by all.

Magic

In Sedulon, due to the ceaseless grind of the ages slowly eating away at the world, the air is absolutely brimming with magic. Exotic energies collect here in unnaturally large amounts. This means that magic items that are normally not possible can function here without issue and normal magic items can be created much more easily.
These items are very popular and widespread and through them a variety of inventions have become commonplace.
For example Gateways, permanent portals between locations are very commonplace since they are so much cheaper to make.

Society & Inhabitants

Society in Sedulon is much like you might expect throughout the realms; highly varied. Due to the ease of creating magical items in the realm, these items are much more commonly available to the ordinary person. Flying ships, devices called 'Automobiles' and so-called 'lightning trains' are present on some of the larger continents. The rates of people being born with innate magical talents are also much higher.

The Inhabitants of Sedulon are creatures from all over the realms. Potentially any race to have ever existed can be found on here, if in low numbers. These people have often founded their own societies, as cut off from the larger universe as they were.

Leaving Sedulon

Sedulon can easily be entered, either from the astral sea or from spells that allow planar travel, but leaving the world is not so easy. Planar travel from this realm is impossible for a variety of reasons, most spells that would allow such a feat outright fail, meaning the only way out is a select few stable portals on the first layer, Ungredin, that are all fiercely guarded. Various parties all over the realms have a vested interest in the operations in Sedulon, and they demand a steep toll indeed if one wishes to leave.
Above all, it is in the interest of the Mechanoids that sedulon remains as contained and isolated as possible.

Ungredin

The Topmost Layer of Sedulon, this layer is characterized by continent sized islands of grey rock floating above a black void. The islands regularly clash with great Force, sending quakes and tremors through the masses and allowing beings to move between islands if desired. The sky varies from blue to grey in color and follows a basic day/night cycle, though no sun, moons or stars are evident.

Ungredin is the only inhabited layer of Sedulon, the other parts are largely too inhospitable.

Flotsam from the Astral sea rains from the sky. Ranging from trash, magical anomalies, lost magical artifacts, remains of dead deities and the occasional unfortunate astral traveler. This material collects atop the floating islands of Ungredin, before eventually falling down into the depths below, arriving in the second layer of Sedulon: Ogenor

Ogenor

This layer is the Sargasso sea, elephants' graveyard, and scrap heap for countless contraptions, creations, weapons, armor, failed experiments, broken devices, fallen buildings, and shipwrecks of sea and air.
Here the flotsam and jetsam of the ages turn to stone in a matter of days or weeks due to the magic of this layer. They cluster together into city or sometimes just house sized stone clusters. The entire layer is one dangerous debris-field. This effect also applies slowly to living beings that remain in this layer for too long, eventually leaving the creatures petrified.

The second Layer of Sedulon is plunged into eternal twilight, the sky above always giving off a low red light to the entire layer. Combined with the shifting shadows of the countless floating rocks above, it creates an environment of wandering dark spots with occasional rays of red light filtering through the dusty air. The droning of the large rocks colliding is ever-present.

Egreven

The Third and Final Layer of Sedulon is plunged in eternal darkness. Merely existing in this part of Sedulon without gravity is extremely difficult, as it resembles a never ending storm of shrapnel and glass shards on a massive scale. All things falling into Sedulon get converted by the above layers into stone shards and dust, that then swirl in this final layer at lethal velocities. Here, everything is ground into dust, before being slowly dissolved by the layer itself, leaving behind nothing at all.
