Lucelain

The world of golden light. The World of endless day. The pristine world.

These and many more are names given to this fantastical realm.

Blinding light and smothering Dark

Lucelain is an inverted sphere world. Also known as a 'hollow world', it is a hollow sphere with the surface of the world being the inside of the sphere. At the very center of Lucelain is a miniature sun, also called the 'Eye Of Ashan'.

Cleansing Light
For most of the year the world of Lucelain is bathed in permanent golden radiance. The sun never sets and the light has a way of intruding even into places that by all means should be pitch-dark.
The golden rays from the eye of Ashan burn demons and undead and strengthen the health of humans, allowing for quick healing and a resistance to disease.

Dreadful dark
Every year for one week, called the 'Long Night' by the common folk, the Eye of Ashan dims and eventually becomes a pure black orb. Then, from cracks and dark crevices come crawling countless Nightmares across the world to hunt and torment the mortals of Lucelain.
The People cower inside their homes, relying on divine and arcane wards to keep themselves safe. To be outside at night in Lucelain is seen as an act of madness for common people.

Ashan

Lucelain is a theocracy of Ashan, a deity of Light, Fire and purity.
Its human population worship Ashan and in turn he grants them divine health and clerical powers to a significant portion of the world's inhabitants. Ashan is also the sole reason why the humans of Lucelain are able to endure against the onslaught of nightmares, as he holds back the night for most of the year.

As a result of his dedication, the society of Lucelain is filled with zealots. Priests are plentiful and they do not tolerate dissent. Other religions are not tolerated. Dissenting voices are silenced, critical literature is burned.
The government of Lucelain is made of Ashan's clergy and lead by a council of 8 High-priests. His paladins lead his armies and his guards.

Ashan himself resides in the imperial palace of Lucelain in-person and governs the realm. He does not show himself publicly anymore and instead acts through his high-priests.

Culture:

The common folk place great trust in the clergy of Ashan. A priest will always be either an expert or know an expert to deal with any problem, and if divine power cannot solve a problem it can at least make it hurt less.

There are pockets of resistance against Ashan's rule, mainly in the places far from civilization, near the forests and the seas. Lucelain also has a problem with necromancers inhabiting the underground.

The language spoken by humans from Lucelain is celestial.

Minor Faiths
At the fringes of society and away from the imperial capital, worshipers of other gods exist. They build temples and attempt to spread their faith, while the church of Ashan politely pretends they don't exist, as they lack the resources to persecute every single minor religion or cult that pops up whilst they have bigger issues to deal with.
However these minor faiths know that if they draw the ire of Ashan, they shall be crushed without mercy and thus they keep quiet.

History:

Much Like Haven, Lucelain was colonized by human refugees who then formed an alliance with Ashan. Ashan created the eye of Ashan and went out of his way to invite further Humans to Lucelain. He eventually conquered the entire world, pushing out most other faiths and religious institutions. He notably also defeated and sealed away the Nightmare Child, a powerful beast that lived in Lucelain.

Long Night
Ashan sealed away the nightmare child, but the Titan-beast is his near equal in power. He could not fully contain it, not by himself. As such, every year the power of the seal falters and the nightmare child's powers leak from the eye of Ashan, feeding itself upon the terror of the populace. It is content with this arrangement, but would not hesitate to escape if an opportunity presented itself.
Despite the ceaseless effort by the clergy of Ashan to mend the seal, the Long Night lasts slightly longer every year. A few minutes at most, but it points to a dreadful conclusion for the world. Perhaps they could mend it if they accepted help from outside their organization, but this would undermine their uncontested rule of lucelain and so they never will.
