Session 003

General Summary

The Gang Gets a Ship

    We started with the party picking up where they left off in the sewers of Cinderwick. Exploring the sewers, they discovered a doorway with a makeshift wooden door leading to another area of the sewers. Vec Nightstar picked the lock on the door and the party went inside. Once inside, they found themselves staring at the origin point for sewage waste. To their right was raw sewage flowing in from a pipe into a little canal. In the canal, there were 5 sets of spinning blades that were slicing and dicing debris as it entered and flowed through the canal. Each set had 4 blades attached like an 'X' and spun rapidly churning the water and breaking up the debris. Looking at the situation, Skaar Lost Tooth had the idea of crossing the canal by climbing onto the pipe and walking over it. He attempted to do so, but the pipe proved to be too slippery and he fell into the water getting struck by a blade before he could get to the other side.

Znitch Bronzefoot decided that she was just going to jump over the canal. It was only 20ft to get to the other side. So she backed up to the wall and got a running start. Once at the edge she jumped with all her might, but at the last second her foot slipped and she only made it halfway across. As she splashed in the water one of the spinning blades caught her and sliced into her. With quick thinking, she grabbed a hold of the blade and pulled herself on top of it. Timing it just right, she leapt from the contraption and landed on the other side.

Azrak Bronzefoot had the idea to use Mage Hand to take one end of the rope to one of the spinning blades and to get the rope tangled into it. Holding on to the other end of the rope, he was able to stop the blades from spinning long enough for the others to cross safely. Once the others crossed, he attempted to cross. He was struck by one blade as it came around but managed to dodge the other blade by dipping down underwater. He pulled himself up on the other side of the canal. Tingle Bitter Dagger then began to work on healing some of their wounds before they proceeded into the next area.

After crossing, they found themselves looking at another door. This door appeared to be more of a permanent door and in better condition than the previous door. Vec Nightstar pressed his ear to the door to see what he could hear from the other side. He heard some groaning sounds faintly coming through the door as well as a horrible wretched smell wafting through the cracks around the door. Opening the door and pushing inside, they found the source of the groaning and were welcomed by the horrible stench that instantly made everyone sick with the exception of Skaar Lost Tooth. The source of the groaning was a kobold who was standing on a stone entrance to a structure in the center of this glowing green pool of gel like liquid. The room was filled with this thick heavy fog that when inhaled stung the nostrils and set heavy in the back of the throat. Looking at the Kobold, they noticed that the clothing it had on appeared to have been burnt, but not by fire. His scales were covered in singe marks and seemed to be coated with this liquid from the pool. Upon seeing the party, the kobold let out a horrible screech and raised his shortbow. The clicking noise, like that of a dolphin, echoed in the chamber as he engaged the party. Two other Kobolds came running from around the corner, both looking in similar shape as the original. When Znitch Bronzefoot came face to face with one of the kobolds. She noticed a green substance running from it's ear and that it's eyes seemed to rapidly twitch from side to side. During the fight, they noticed some liquid fall from a pipe in the ceiling and splash down into the pool of glowing green liquid. Azrak Bronzefoot shouted up "Dipi! Stop pouring stuff down the drain! That's enough!" but he did not get a response. The party made quick work of the 3 kobolds while battling the effects of the fog in this area. Azrak Bronzefoot took the worse of the fog, starting to feel his sight fade and blur as well as his mental capacities begin to slow.

After the fight, the party discovered an empty room and used this location to get away from the sickening smell and to heal themselves up. Tingle Bitter Dagger mended their wounds and the party left the room to check the bodies. The party took turns vomiting in this room to clear the sickness from their stomachs. Before leaving, Azrak Bronzefoot wrote on the floor, "This room was bested by Azrak Bronzefoot." Tingle Bitter Dagger inspected the bodies and shoved one his medical tools into the ear canal of one of the dead kobolds to get a brain sample. Pulling the tool out and expecting to see normal gray brain matter, he was surprised to find that the brain matter was green, partially liquified. He came to the conclusion, by judging the state of the brain and the singe marks around the nostrils, that the kobold was for the most part mindless, suspecting that the toxic fumes in this area melted the kobolds brain. He did not think it would be wise to spend any longer than necessary in this place, or they could suffer the same fate.

The party wanted to check this structure in the middle of this pool of liquid, but there wasn't a way to cross. They found two empty wall torch sconces and some rope on the ground. They tied one end of the rope to a crossbow bolt and Qeeq Blackfoot shot the bolt into the door across the way. They then tied the other end of the rope to one of the empty wall torch sconces and crossed the pool of liquid to get to the structure in the center. Qeeq Blackfoot, Znitch Bronzefoot, Vec Nightstar, and Azrak Bronzefoot crossed using the makeshift rope bridge. Once across, they opened the door to find 3 other kobolds in this room. The kobolds didn't seem to notice them enter and kept slamming down their pickaxe's in the same spot, over and over. After a couple of attempts to disarm and knockout the kobolds, the party discovered that they did not react to anything and didn't notice them at all. Looking at them closely, they saw that these also had the green liquid flowing from their ears and that they didn't seem to adjust their swings at all, striking the same exact place over and over. Looking around the room, they saw bags of this powder substance used to make cement like material and rock debris littering the room. Vec Nightstar, after confirming with Tingle Bitter Dagger in regards to their medical state, put the kobolds out of their misery by slicing their necks. Searching their bodies, the party found a small notebook that contained a work schedule and a list of names, as well as a roughly drawn picture of a female kobold and a small hatchling. They took these items and made their way towards the exit of the sewers.

Climbing out of the sewers, they were greeted by a welcoming sense of fresh clean air and a clear bright night sky. They made their way to a nearby inn, where the innkeep threw in free baths due to their horrible stench. Znitch Bronzefoot bought everyone a glass of wine and decided that she would stay at her home here in Cinderwick. They agreed to meet up in the morning outside of her parents bakery. Znitch Bronzefoot left and made her way to her home, while the others took a nice bath and enjoyed their bath wine before heading off to sleep.

In the morning, they met up with Znitch outside of the bakery while Znitch met them with a bag of pastries. She hook her arm with Azrak Bronzefoot and led them off to the Alchemist's shop to see Dipi. The party informed Dipi of what they discovered in the sewers below. Suspecting that Dipi may have done it on purpose, they employed some light interrogation but came to the conclusion that it was just a mistake. Dipi agreed that she would not dump anything else down the drain and would meet with Elder Uhso to discuss where she could dump her alchemical waste. As a reward and a way of saying thanks, she gave the party 6 Elixir's of Life (Lesser). She did recognize one of the names on the list she found, but didn't really know anything about him. The party left the alchemist shop and made their way to Elder Uhso's tent. They disclose everything they discovered about the sewers and handed over the notebook and picture to Uhso. He took the items and said that he would have someone track down their family members and inform them of what happened. He thanked the party for their help and informed them that he had managed to secure a ship for the party. He told them that they could find it down at the docks and to look for a green Kobold named Dox.

Leaving the elder's hut, they made their way down to the docks. It was easy to find Dox as he was just leaning off the railing of the ship staring off in the distance. He welcomed them onboard and gave them a quick tour of the ship, showing them all the rooms and each of the decks. After the tour, he handed over the paperwork for the ship to the party and wished them good luck and safe travels. After he left, the party suddenly realized that none of them knew how to pilot a ship or navigate. Qeeq Blackfoot was sure that he could figure it out, but it would take him some time. Instead of setting sail, the party decided to stay in Cinderwick and search for someone who knew how to sail and navigate and maybe a chronicler to keep track of their adventures. Znitch Bronzefoot suggested that they visit one of the taverns at night, get a couple of sailors wasted and put them on the ship and set sail. By the time they wake up, the boat will be in the middle of sea and they won't have a choice but to help because of the implications.

It has yet to be seen how, or if, they will be able to convince or pay anyone enough to travel with them. It is a daunting journey with a very high risk of never seeing Nilrodhi again. We will see if the party will be able to secure anyone to travel with them.
