Law of Unions

Divine Flesh can be of three Kinds, which are Unions of different Natures: True, Paired, or Triuned; Four-Part-Flesh is self-sundering.

True Kinds

True Kinds come in four varieties, one for each kind of Divine Flesh. Names for these can vary by language, but most common in international scholarship are those terms codified by the Aestyvine Craftlord Alkeptoros.
  • Thos: The Structure-Flesh. Materials composed predominantly of Thos are dominated by an orderly lattice. These are things like stone, and jewels.
  • Lydos: The Rhythm-Flesh. Substances composed predominantly of Lydos are fluid in nature. The most common, and arguably mosrt pure, is water, and most liquids are of a composition dominated by Lydos
  • Zaephos: The Glory-Flesh. Zaephos is more esoteric than the other True Kinds, being the medium of sensory perception. Strictly speaking, pure Zaephos is more commonly known as light, but dominates such varied things as cacophony, rancid odor, and complex flavor.
  • Turos: The Rebellion-Flesh. As the nature of Rebellion-Flesh is to reject the other forms of Divine Flesh, in isolate it is unusual and abstract. In it purest form, it is Dream-Tangle, a mass of writhing aether which subverts the nature of those things it touches, diminishing itself as it does.

Pair Kinds

Pair Kinds combine the Natures of the two kinds of Divine Flesh which they incorporate, and come in six varieties. As with True Kinds, names can vary by language, but international discourse is dominated by the Aestyvine.
  • Ieos: The Structure-Rhythm-Flesh. Materials dominated by Ieos are things which cohere to rigid shape, but can bend and flex without breaking or permanently deforming. Variations are found most commonly in living matter, both fauna and flora.
  • Neos: The Structure-Glory-Flesh. Materials which have rigid structure, but also possess and intrinsic grandeur or intensity. With few exceptions, such is as the infamous substance of rotstone, this means the many different varieties of metal that exist in the world.
  • Aros: The Rhythm-Glory-Flesh. Substances composed primarily of Aros are of a fluid nature, but also posses an intrinsic grandeur, intensity, or otherwise communicate such from other materials. These are the many gaseous substances of the world, the purest form being common air, which facilitates the communication of all sound, and most scents.
  • Kantros: The Structure-Rebellion-Flesh. In Kantros, the Nature of Rebellion subverts and inverts the Nature of Structure. Shapes and arrangements which should be stable and strong, are instead weak and brittle; those which should be weak and brittle, are instead stable and strong. Those materials which are dominated by Kantros are known collectively as Dream-Stone.
  • Bloros: The Rhythm-Rebellion-Flesh. In Bloros, the Nature of Rebellion subverts and inverts the Nature of Rhythm. It is known for being temperamental, after a fashion. Attempts to induce flow, or to drive currents in substances dominated by Bloros will be met with difficulty and probable failure. However, pools and vats which should be still are filled with great cycling currents. Such fluids are known collectively as Dream-Waters.
  • Telos: The Glory-Rebllion-Flesh. In Telos, the Nature of Rebellion subverts and inverts the Nature of Glory. It saps the splendor, and dulls repugnance. It makes the plain and the drab into shining beauty, or disgusting horror. Such is the Dream-Light.

Triune Kinds

Triune Kinds combine the Natures of those three kinds of Divine Flesh which they incorporate. This is, in the particular case of the three Rebellion-Triunes, this confluence of properties is not exactly simple, as subverting the properties of the other Natures present situationally, in an echo of The Empty Throne's infamous capriciousness. As with True Kinds and Pair Kinds, the names of the Triune Kinds can vary based on language, but international discourse is dominated by their Aestyvine Names.
  • Thyphos: The Structure-Rhythm-Glory-Flesh. That material which is possessed of structure, which moves readily without being broken, and which Overwhelm the senses. Thyphos is not subtle. It is most plentiful in the great molten fire in the belly of the world, but was also the body of the Great Power Aztarnak the Devourer, and the weapon made from its remains.
  • Luthos: The Structure-Rhythm-Rebellion-Flesh. In Luthos, the Natures of Structure and Rhythm cohere successfully into organic material, but it does not behave as it should, absent the influence of the Nature of Rebellion. When struck, it ripples and flows without breaking. When made to hold fast, it does not yield to motion. And if not animated by some driving intelligence, this becomes far less predictable. For these reasons, creatures and plants of Luthos, known in its many varieties as Dream-Skin, are highly dangerous.
  • Thaeros: The Structure-Glory-Rebellion-Flesh. In Thaeros, the Natures of Structure and Glory cohere successfully, but the resultant material—usually metal—does not behave as it should, absent the influence of the Nature of Rebellion. Contact with such materials, Dream-Ores, can limit or restrict those senses which observe them, or otherwise intensify them to the point of being overwhelming. Additionally, they are given to either shatter when their structure would otherwise hold them together, or else remain implausibly strong. Which of these might happen, and when, is difficult to predict, and each object seems to have a temperament of its own.
  • Lyros: The Rhythm-Glory-Rebellion-Flesh. In Lyros, the Natures of Rhythm and Glory cohere successfully into gaseous substances, but do not behave as they should, absence the influence of the Nature of Rebellion. These Dream-Airs, as they are collectively known, will resist attempts to induce in them flow, current, motion, expansion, or contraction. They will, if left alone, expand and contract erratically and chaotically, potentially producing such pressures as to break their containers, according to their nebulous temperament. Additionally, the Dream-Airs can limit or restrict those senses which observe them, or otherwise intensify them to the point of being overwhelming.
