The Lanterns
The Lanterns are an elite cadre of field researchers and retrieval specialists within The Harrowfield Institute , trained to navigate the most hazardous spectral and industrial zones of Awarth. They serve as the Institute’s eyes and hands in the darkest reaches of the city, tasked with recovering lost relics, studying supernatural phenomena, and ensuring the safe passage of other researchers through spectral hotspots like The Glimmer Sink and The Rustway.
Each Lantern is uniquely equipped to face the dangers of The Churn and the spectral incursions that plague Awarth. They are chosen for their resilience, adaptability, and keen insight into the unpredictable forces that linger in the city’s shadows. The Lanterns wear protective gear marked with binding glyphs and carry custom Gree-fueled lanterns that offer both light and protection against the restless dead.
The work is dangerous and unforgiving, and many Lanterns do not return from their missions. Those who survive often bear scars both physical and spiritual, having glimpsed the blurred boundary between life and death. Despite this, the Lanterns are deeply respected for their bravery, their presence often seen as a beacon of hope in Awarth’s ever-encroaching gloom.
