Kaloch
Kaloch is a grim, insular city-state carved into the cliffs and deep caverns of a salt-encrusted mountainside, shrouded in superstition and haunted by the shadows of its own rituals. Its people are bound to the earth in a near-fanatical reverence for the Stonemother, an ancient force they believe both sustains and punishes them. The city is a labyrinth of dark, narrow tunnels, creaking wooden shacks, and vast cavernous halls, all dimly lit by ghostly green and blue gree lamps that cast flickering shadows over salt-veined stone walls. Every structure is marked with charms and symbols, crude earthmarks carved into doors and pillars to ward off spirits and appease the depths. Kalochans live and work under a doctrine of sacrifice, facing brutal conditions in the mines and the constant threat of “Deep Wrath” should they displease the land. Outsiders are rarely welcome; Kaloch’s people view their lives and resources as sacred, bound in a pact with the earth that outsiders would never understand. In Kaloch, survival is as much about appeasing ancient forces as it is about enduring the unrelenting, claustrophobic dark.
