Lumaer

The Lumaer family is the oldest of The Five Families of Marn, and one of the few that is based around an actual familial unit. The Lumaer bloodline is ancient, even by High Elven standards. Initially connected to the High Council of the Elthenian Empire, their long elven lifespan has allowed a millennia-long consolidation of wealth. This money has made the family nigh-impervious to all external threats. As with any bloodline of their age, these threats are omnipresent. Their patriarch, V’las Telmar Lumaer, has guided the family for over 1100 years. V'las led the family to shift from their lavish holdings in the Elthenian Empire’s capitol to their sprawling steel compound in the metropolis of Marn.
Sorcerous blood runs strong in the Lumaer, with every other child born with innate magical ability. This unusually predictable power has been a source of paranoia and pride for the family, as descendants vie to be the next in line for a magical heir. Deals are brokered, cousins are slain, and babies are had in secret in an effort to upset the balance of power, all to give their child the chance at the privilege associated with the Lumaer’s magical birthright. It is rumored this alternation of abilities was the cause of the schism between Lumaer brothers some 500 years ago, which gave rise to the Glynmyar Family.
Most know the Lumaer as a syndicate of spies and assassins, preferring to interface with the world through proxies, and often at the end of a poisoned blade. Their spellblade enforcers are the boogeymen of the underworld, blending spellcraft, trancelike swordplay, and deadly intuition. Their spy network extends across the known world, with the exception of Baazdos.
