Garret Boulderbreaker
Before taking on the mantle of “father to the working class”, Garett was the third child to a middling cobbler, barely making ends meet in the Leatherworks of Greyport. He only became known after a stint in prison (for inciting unrest among the working class) where he met a descendant of Red Paw, the infamous leader of the Red Paw Rebellion. Radicalized by the stories of impossible odds against the elite class, he left confinement far more dangerous than when he entered. He quickly mobilized the tanners and cobblers of the Leatherworks, forming the first union in Marn. As more blue collar industries joined the cause, the Bootstrappers (as they came to call themselves) pervaded the minds of all who worked their hands to the bone for another’s profit. Their ideology intoxicating, and their methods brutal, they quickly went from strikes to sabotage in a matter of months, forcing the city baron to cede to their demands lest the city burn to the ground.
Once established, the seeds of violence and corruption that had been planted began to blossom, and the “hero of the little guy” very quickly became a monopolistic bully. While the soup kitchens, low income housing, and charities remained, independent enterprises all but disappeared, replaced with the stern faces and brass buckles of the People’s Family of Marn.
