Qanaar
Qanaar is the capital and largest city of the Markazi Empire. Located in the Qana Island in the Petranesian Archipelago, Qanaar has a population of more than 850,000 as of 4500 AF, making it one of the largest cities on Eridus. Founded as Kunaru, it grew as a major trading post of the Korsan Empire, being allowed a great deal of autonomy under the Empire. When it broke away in the 31st century however, it became a city-state for the next 400 years until forming the Markazi Empire.
Qanaar is a major trading city located at the center of the Golden Road trade networks, with goods and people going through Qanaar from all around the world, often even as far as Cartia and the Sampawi Empire. It is said that if one can't find something in Qanaar, it's probably not something one wants to find.

Demographics
82% Armaran (64% Markazi, 18% other Petranesian, 6% Eburian, 4% Metvian, 3% Asharian, 5% other), 14% Obelan (mostly Watabowi and Talan), 4% Cartian. Many also have distant Sildor ancestry from the Interplanetary Age.
Defences
Qanaar is defended by a wall on three sides and tall hills to the east, overseen by guards and well lit to prevent an attack from the east. Military patrols also roam the coastline of the island to look out for potential sneak attacks.
Infrastructure
Qanaar has a harbor made from a large lagoon, holding ships from all around the world. This harbor also hosts passenger and cargo ferries to the other islands of the Markazi Empire. As Qanaar is the only large city on the island it only has two gatehouses, one in the north and one in the south, with the ocean to the west and tall hills to the east, in which the imperial palace is built. The city has an expansive sewer system connected to the ocean.
History
Qanaar was founded as a trading post by the name of Kunaru by the Kosran Empire in 1322 AF. The city prospered under Kosran rule, however the Petranesian territories gradually broke away during the Dark Ages. In the 35th century a new trading federation was established between the Petranesian islands, with Qanaar established as the capital of the newly established Markazi Empire. Eventually, as the Dark Ages drew to a close, the Markazi Empire grew its trade routes longer and longer, eventually spanning from the Sampawi Empire in the west to Haoko in the east, and serving as an intermediary between Obela and Armara, as the Markazi are among the only non-Obelan nations with whom the Watabowi Empire will trade.
Geography
Qanaar is on the edge of a small, dry tropical island, and as such has no rivers and gets its water mostly from underground aquifers and desalinization.
Natural Resources
Qanaar has easy access to building materials and select precious metals, however Qanaar's economic assets come from its position at the center of global trade.
