Soulfused

The Soulfused (also known as Ihtzey, the Stone-men, or just 'Stonies) are an artificial race made from Hallowed Stone and several captured souls from beyond the Veil, that have been "forged" together and then tied to the artificial body so permanently that the resulting being can be considered a singular "living" being.   The way how their bodies work is a curious case. When "born" their stone bodies soften and become flexible, especially on the inside where they form soft, life-like organs. Why this happens is unknown, as they seemingly don't need eat or breath. And when removed, the organs rapidly turn back to solid form.   The first of Soulfused are presumed to have been made by the Greater Dalis, while the newer ones are made by the assigned elder Soulfused. Their creation is usually done by the "Forgemaster", an old and powerful Soulfused, who combines the materials and with a help from a specialized forge, punctures the Veil and gathers the souls. Then with the tools and abilities only know to the Forgemaster itself, compresses the souls into a singular entity.   It is common for Forgemaster to take a tiny fragment of a soul from the one who wish to create the construct, and merge it with the "newborn" creation, essentially branding it as their "child".   The newly created Soulfused is still but an automaton, without a mind of it's own, unable to process but the simplest of commands. It can take from a month to several months for it's mind to coalescent to something coherent and from there, unless interrupted, they only get smarter and more conscious as they gain age.

Basic Information

Anatomy

The body of a Soulfused is a curious one. Before they are "born" they are crafted as solid statues and infact often purpose build with a task in mind. Immediately after their bond with the souls, their stone bodies soften and their insides gain an imitation of innards and organs, even though they do not need them. And if the organs are removed, they quickly solidify into stone again.
One notable part of their stone origins is that their faces, while they are able to emote, act painfully slow. Meaning it takes several seconds for it to shape into, for example, a smile. This can and have caused problems with social interactions.   Other interesting part are their eyes. Like their bodies, they made of stone and soften, become their real eyes. But unlike eyes of other races, they see world though a soul spectrum. Meaning, they do not see as normal people do and the world seems mostly gray to them. But when they see a creature with a soul, they can see and recognize their auras, and it is these being that become filled with colors. Though colors for creatures with weaker souls seem more faded than those with stronger souls and spirits. This ability makes it so that trying to yourself with non magical means is an exercise in futility, as the fused can literally see who you are.   The Soulfused can live up to 300 years, although their artificially fused souls usually start to degrade latest after their second century. This continues until they return to a near automaton-like state and then into empty husks. And when a Soulfused finally perishes, their bodies solidify into statues. The "graveyards" of Soulfused often take the shape of gardens filled with perished soulfused statues, that has been positioned into dignified poses just before they expired.

Civilization and Culture

Naming Traditions

They essentially innately know their names when they are born. It has something to do with how they are formed from the souls have been collected from beyond the Veil.  As their first words are always their names, and it is this name they react to. The name itself is usually some form of weird combination of names. Such as; "Jakgcrurian" or "Efsxirirs". Once they have gained some amount of conciousness, they often shorten their names: "Rurian" or "Efrir".   And then when they have gained some level of autonomy, they take another name, often based on something they have done, or are good at. For example; "Rurian Cutting" and "Efrir Gatherer".

History

They do not have a culture of their own per se, but they often work as the servants for the Dalis, and are usually not given much power. Although there are exceptions. For example, one of the most feared characters in the underworld of Amaran, The Conductor, has been rumored to be a Soulmerged.   The reason for this is the coup d'état that took place a long time ago. Where they were secretly mass-produced, and they managed to take over the capital. But with the common front of the Humans and the Dalis, they were defeated. Now they live partly underground and partly in service, thanks to the magic based protocol that keeps them under a leash.

While Soulfused do not have a genders as we understand. Some adopt one upon reaching a certain level of consciousness. But they are rare among their people.
