Broachian Kelp

Broachian Kelp, (also knows as "Brokka", “Grain-Kelp” or “Bread-Kelp”) is a popular grain most of commonly grown in Ravaner. It is also one of the most important produce exported by Ravaner.   It is grown in shallow basins or at the edges of calm rivers. The kelp grows upright, in and above the water, so that most of it is always submerged underwater. Along the kelp's "leaves" grows small seed-capsules, inside which are the priced kernels. It is these kernels that the plant gets it's name from. After extracting them, they can be grinded into a nutritious flour. The kernels can also be used to brew beer and when properly fermented, can be distilled into stronger alcoholic beverages. Ravanerian "Keldac" is a popular drink amongst the Eleann sailors.   On the other hand, the flat stalk and vines of the plant can be used to make a variety of useful accessories. The wide stalk is often dried and then treated with salt or alkaline-lime mixtured into a thick and string leather-like material. In fact, in Ravaner "Brokash, or Brokka-leather" is a popular material in to make clothes from. It can also be hardened and used as a lightweight armor.
