The Sea of Dreams

Overview

The Sea of Dreams is located to the north-east of Western Continent NEEDS NAME/PLACEHOLDER. It is a place that sailors often try to avoid because it is said once you enter the sea there is no turning back. No one who has entered the Sea of Dreams has ever returned, at least of sane mind. No one truly knows what lies beyond The Sea of Dreams or even if there is a beyond. Some, however, have dedicated their lives to attempting to figure out what lies beyond, many expeditions venture in and yet none have returned. Some even speculate that perhaps a paradise lies beyond, which is why no one has ever returned.

Legends

There are many legends that surround the Sea of Dreams, many believe that is a place outside of the material plane, filled with creatures and monsters, some have even called it The Sea of Nightmares due to the everyone disappearing who ever enters save for those that come back raving mad. There are numerous popular stories and legends surrounding the Sea of Dreams, especially shared by the sailors and wanderers of The Kingdom of Venithyr and Valnir.

The Sea of Nightmares

Many sailors regard the Sea of Dreams as the Sea of Nightmares. Many sailors believe that nothing lies beyond the Sea of Nightmares save death and madness. They often point at the ones who have returned raving nothing but madness and scrawling random bits about the horrors they encountered on their fare. This is the most common belief of the Sea of Dreams. Not many are willing to pass into the Sea of Dreams because of this belief. There are some, however, believe that it might perhaps be a faster way to the east if you can survive the nightmarish creatures within.

Sea of Paradise

The other, less well-known legend regarding The Sea of Dreams is the nickname it got The Sea of Paradise. It's a bit of a improper name for it, as the people who speak this legend still speak of the horrors that you will encounter along the way. However, unlike many others, they believe that a paradise exists at the end of the Sea of Dreams. That you must traverse and overcome the nightmares so that they might earn a place in paradise. What this paradise is? It varies from sailor to sailor, some speak of untold riches, others of a utopia where those who crossed are heralded as kings, and others speak of more ... base desires. Whatever the tale or style of paradise is, however, they still believe that something grand awaits at the other end, however far it is.
