Sul Nahal

Bounty of Na-Sheir, Mortal throne of Achnon-Ankh

Sul Nahal, the Pearl of the East, the throne of Al Achnon, beacon of Kahaan. Sul Nahal is the greatest (by population) city of the Federal Monarchy of Al Achnon, a collection of city-states in the deserts of Kahaan. Located where the Na-Sheir river meets the sea, Sul Nahal is supplied by fresh water which has allowed Sul Nahal grow to today's size.

City Districts

Sul Nahal is divided into several districts and neighbourhoods.

The Divine Court

The Divine Court is a large forum-style district that houses temples to all of the Children of Sawari-Ra, the gods of the Sekhmet. Due to the theocratic nature of Al Achnon, the Divine Court also serves as the royal court, with The Blue Palace as the magnificent centre. Commoners, nobles, poor or wealthy are all welcome in the Divine Court, where they pray to the gods and attend other business.

Leper Palace

The Shanty Town of Sul Nahal, located where the sewers meet the sea. This district is dominated by lean-to shacks, run-down houses and dirt roads. This is where the poor and downtrodden reside. Cheap shops and shady businesses line the squared and walking the streets at night is an excellent way to get mugged. Guard presence is low here and people are mostly left to themselves to wallow in the dirt.

A're Madani

A're Madani houses many of Sul Nahal's lower income citizens. Labourers, stablehands and couriers are examples of the typical A're Madani resident. Typical buildings include multiple stories, flat roofs, arches and stairs that give this district a distinct vertical nature where traffic flows through the streets and over rooftops and bridges. The buildings at street level often serve as stores and workshops, sometimes making use of canal access to transport goods. A're Madani allowes access to many other districts namely the lower harbour and Leper Palace.

Government

Sul Nahal is officially ruled by the Sultan of the monarchy who acts as both head of the federation as well as the ruler of the city.   While the Sultan is the official ruler, most of the day to day business regarding the city is done by the steward of the city. The steward rules the city in name of the Sultan. The steward often attends the council in place of the Sultan alongside various highly influencial guild masters, nobles and other individuals of high power and status in the city.

Infrastructure

Sul Nahal is situated around the Na-Sheir river. The river provides for many of the city's amenities; it feeds the underground sewers, canals provide easy transportation of goods, wells, fountains and aqueducts are abundant and vegetation grows throughout the city. Watermills use the river to power industries and fishing in both the river and the sea is common. Outside the city, the floodplains provide much of the food and these farms are critical to Sul Nahal's continued success.   Sul Nahal's ports, docks and shipyards are abundant, transportation of goods and people by water is common. Ships from all throughout Artha visit the city with goods and passengers.   Sul Nahal's main roads are wide and paved, horse or camel drawn carts can easily traverse the main roads side by side.
