Journalism is Dead. Long Live Journos.

Journos are what passes for journalists in the Age of Convergence. They are mostly freelancers, selling their stories and videos to various SolarNet news agencies, most of whom are ultimately owned by Eclipse Entertainment. Many of them run their own SN sites, though these tend to be niche.

No Protection

Journos don't have the sort of assumed immunity that journalists had in ages past. Most journos know how to use a weapon and some of them are as tough as any commando. They face down corporations, mafiosos, corrupt officials, and sometimes even aliens in pursuit of a good vid. At some point in their career, every journo has to choose whether to live or tell a story. It's somewhat telling just how many of them choose to tell the story.

Have to Be a Little Crazy

Journos have a calling. Information is so tightly controlled by PR firms and clandestine agencies and criminal organization that even the weather reports are filtered for approval. Nobody gets rich as a journo anymore, and their public respect is basically nil from anyone with a modicum of power, but nertheless the profession persists.
