House of Greeling

“The corporations see labor as a resource. We see it as family. That’s the difference between mining for profit and mining for tomorrow.”
— Tanya Greeling, Head of House Greeling

Foundations in the Dark

House Greeling was founded in the immediate aftermath of the Cozine Disaster by Jorge Greeling, one of the Unbroken Ten and a man known more for his callused hands than battlefield heroics. A miner by trade and a unionist by temperament, Jorge's claim to nobility came not through conquest, but through sheer grit. After surviving the annihilation of his entire union cell by Cozine-07 synthetic forces, Jorge accepted the dominion over several remote and depleted mines in the Oort Cloud as compensation. With only a few dozen survivors and a broken economy back in Sol, the newly born House Greeling vanished into the void. It was not until Year 68 that they resurfaced, having turned a found Gigafactorum into a roaring center of production. Self-sufficient, unyielding, and stubbornly industrious, they began shipping massive quantities of raw Materials back to Terra—requiring nothing in return but silence and distance.

The First Ascendancy War

Greeling’s re-emergence into PSC space wasn’t without conflict. Their efficient mining and tight-knit, self-policed colonies clashed with the expanding interests of the Stellaris Mining Corporation. Tensions reached a breaking point in Year 210 when a Greeling survey team uncovered alien ruins buried in a rocky body within the Cloud—ruins belonging to the mysterious, possibly extinct species known as the Twisted Men. Stellaris struck fast, killing or capturing all involved. What they did not expect was the fury of House Greeling’s response. Ransoms were paid with stoic pragmatism, followed by a brutal counterassault spearheaded by Houseguard elite, supported by prototype Squaddie Drones—synthetic soldiers slaved to a single commander. The result was a ten-year cold and dirty Ascendancy War fought in the lonely void of the Oort Cloud, largely ignored by Sol’s politics. Greeling proved not just resilient but methodical, unionizing SMC workers, disrupting supply chains, and turning pirates against their corporate masters until outside peacekeepers finally stepped in.

Legacy of Resistance

Today, House Greeling is one of the wealthiest and most influential Great Houses, with a fortress-like grip on rare mineral resources and deep-space shipping. They remain the most openly hostile House toward the gigacorporations, especially SMC, and are quietly waging a generational campaign to undermine the corporate-led economy. Greeling operatives are known for infiltrating corporate worksites, organizing labor movements, and even reprogramming synthetic workers to demand fair treatment—sometimes forming “synthetic unions” as a form of memetic sabotage. Their disdain for the capitalist ethos of the corporations isn't rooted in idealism but in legacy: Greeling doesn’t forget exploitation, nor does it forgive betrayal. Under the shrewd and steel-backed leadership of Tanya Greeling, the House remains fiercely independent, unflinchingly loyal to its workers, and unafraid to bleed for what it considers the future of humanity—one built not on margins, but on solidarity.
