Not Line Infantry
Commandoes aren't line infantry. They don't spend months in the trenches, they don't intentionally drive hovertanks into enemy lines, and they aren't for taking territory or deflecting mass assaults on a fortified position. Commandoes' purpose is to take high value targets, such as enemy commanders or powerplants, boarding starships, and otherwise making a very kinetic nuisance of themselves among the enemy.Irreplaceable
The line infantry role has largely, but not entirely, been relegated to clones, Robots, and Cataphracts. However, what commandoes do requires creativity, individuality, and personal drive.
