Battle of Luxembridge

Some cite the historic Battle of Luxembridge as the turning point in Lord King Eastaughffe’s campaign against the Old Races. In those old times, there stood a bridge at the crossroads of what is now called the King’s Road called Luxembridge. It was said to be made of a marble so polished and refined that it glowed from miles out, even in broad daylight. The bridge also happened to be a center point for travel and trade across the island of Saxony. It was there that Lord King Eastaughffe led an army of five hundred men against the thousand strong troop of elven warriors. The battle was brutal, fierce, and long but, by the end of it, Eastaughffe and the forces of Men emerged victorious. Eastaughffe was grievously wounded by the enemy general though and would walk with a limp for the rest of his days. It is said that, as recompense for the injury, Eastaughffe took the general’s wife for himself and forced the elven noble to watch the consummation before publicly executing him.

With access to the King’s Road, the Clans of Men gained a great deal of mobility and ability to communicate amongst themselves which led them to a much more easy defeat of the scattered elven armies.

Historical Significance

Legacy

To this day, the anniversary - as best as can be estimated - of the Battle Of Luxembridge is celebrated as an important holiday in Saxony. In Dinver, it’s known as the Festival of Lights where hundreds of glowing lanterns are cast into the air at night to replicate the glow of the now decrepit Luxembridge.
