G.O.R.M.

The Grimm Organization of Regulating Magic, or G.O.R.M., is the organization under the Grimm Empire that regulates magic. The organization regulates magic to make sure that no mage gets too powerful in order to overthrow the Grimm Empire. To do this, G.O.R.M. has set up a number of laws that pertain to magic and those who can use magic.   First, those who use magic in an arcane sense (warlocks, sorcerers, and wizards) must have a magic license that they renew simi-annually. This license is a way to tell that this magic user is registered in G.O.R.M.'s database (it's files, not an online database), and depicts how strong that magic user is. This can also show what that magic user's specialty is, if they have one. Those who are not licensed under this law are arrested and eventually sent straight to Absensia .   Secondly, those who use magic in an artisan sense (Bards and artificers) fall under the same laws of those who use magic in an arcane sense. They must renew and get their license simi annually. This license cost 10 gold pieces in order to renew. To the common folk, that would be a lot. To a magic user, it should be no problem to get that much gold on a simi annual basis.   Thirdly, those who use magic in a holy sense (Paladins and clerics) do not have to get a license. They must be affiliated with the church of Tornee or some godly servant under Tornee (like the Grimm Emperor). If the holy magic user is not part of the church of Tornee or in some ways affiliated with Tornee, they are arrested and eventually sent to Absensia.   Lastly, those who use magic in the nature sense (Druids, rangers and witches) are considered illegal. They are either arrested, killed or sent to Absensia. The reason why the wild magic is considered illegal is simple. G.O.R.M cannot and will not regulate such an unpredictable magic. This also pertains to anyone that falls under the wild magic category.    Also of note, bladesinging is a very close and gaurded secret held by the wealthy elite. They are very protective of this type of wizardry. Most Bladesingers hold a high office in G.O.R.M. to a point where they can control who becomes a bladesinger. If a person were to become a bladesinger without G.O.R.M.'s knowledge or consent, the crimianls (the illegal teacher of bladesinging and the student) would either be killed or sent to Absensia.
